so, they sent an update today.

The starter got manufactured and printed, but they don't have the cash to get the bits from the manufacturer, nor assemble them into sets.

how long is a manufacturer likely to hold an order like that pending payment before they just scrap it to get the space back or liquidate it for the money they're owed?

there's not long left as Archon/Prodos who are the manufacturer are facing a tax bill in the near future if they carry on holding the stock....

on the other hand if they scrap it Soda Pop may well not have to pay (or pay them much) them since the contract will almost certainly specify product delivered rather than product made, stored and then junked

are taxes quarterly there or does the financial year not line up with the calender year?

Here is a repost of what I posted in the Starfinder thread for those who missed it.

From a facebook post by Jared Ewertovski of Archon

"In the spirit of the article below, as a manufacturer of miniatures for Ninja Division, I can officially state that Starfinder and Relick Knights 2 will NOT be delivered. Ninja Division owns Archon money for entire! Starfinder manufacturing (delivered and what's in the warehouse) Relics Knights (entirely manufactured and stored in our warehouse) and a few more delivered projects like Humble Bundle (entirely delivered). At this stage, we are searching for legal advice in the USA to help us out in recovering at least a fraction of costs we accommodated with manufacturing for Ninja Division. We are also, speaking with Paizo about finding some solution for backers but I would not count on it as Ninja Divisions stated to us that their bank account is dry as a desert. Anyway, an official Archon statement will be out within a few days. Sorry for the bad news."

This update was laughable. Basically "We're financially dead in the water...but we'll figure it out!"

Yeah, I'm really not sure where they're getting their optimism.

Also, it should be noted that EVERY project went significantly over budget.

I really want someone to work out something with Archon.  It seems really sour for the minis to be made and just stored in a warehouse, then dumped.

While I agree, we'd have to see Ninja Division and Archon work something out.  While Archon may have the physical product, it's still ND's IP and Archon can't sell it without ND's blessing.  (And I'm not sure how I feel about having to pay again to get what I pledged for -- or if I can get anything I pledged for.  I don't really care about the box since I wasn't planning on playing the game.  I wanted the minis for Shadowrun or Eclipse Phase games.)  So I'm not optimistic.

The only assets ND appear to have at this point are their various IPs and manufacturing molds (assuming they own those).  I don't believe ND can sell those off for enough to close out all of their KS obligations, especially since they are in a bad position already.  This doesn't include other debts the company may have.

I believe only the Starfinder mini KS backers will see further fulfillment and that will be through some sort of agreement between Ninja Division, Archon, and Paizo.

Looking at those pie charts and graphs of overruns you certainly have to wonder: At what point exactly did they realize they didn't have nearly enough money to fulfill this?  Because it couldn't have taken long.

Also, why was so much of the money spent on "Project Development: This includes staff and contractor costs for art, sculpting, writing, graphic design, etc." ?  Is that how the budgets for these projects normally work?   Maybe I'm just naive.

it is a bit off. it should probably be broken out more, to things like inhouse art staff costs, inhouse writing staff costs, contractor art costs, contractor writing costs.

But these charts don't really look to be configured up in such a way as to be useful. All it seems to show is that their project management and budgeting is at best a joke.
