what type of project are your working on? That sounds like a tough thing to do. You might use some leathery type mid tones to seperate the red from the white. That's the only thing I can come up with.

I tend to agree with Ironworker on this one, I don't think you can fade red to white without going through pink unless you throw in a third color in the middle (like red to yellow to white, or whatever).

Going straight from red to white you will have to have a pink area in there somewhere or it's not fading, IMXp anyway. Maybe Jester and his red-fu-mojo will have something, or (since he detests being included in this group) one of our resident uber-painters will know of something.

I think the leathery midtone might work. After playing

a bit with photoshop, this is what I got. Basically, it's Red faded to Bleached Bone

faded to White without looking pinkish. Fading bleached bone to white is not

hard but red to bleached bone is (at least for me). What would you

recommend? What i'm trying to do here is an helmet, I want to keep the

tone earthy instead of gory if you know what I mean.

Thanks a lot,

Tyen

I would try to replicate your photoshop experiment with paints onto paper and see how it goes... these multiple transitions may be best suited to wet blending using fairly thin paints. If it's just a helmet, I imagine the surface area isn't too large so you would have a good chance of getting it right wet before any of the colours dried up.

I'd be interested to know how you get on... new colour schemes are always welcome :poke:

Actually (and yes Orchid I DETEST being labeled an uber-painter or some similar term) I would run thru probably four colors/layers depending on the depth/hue of the red used.

More than likely I would go with (Vallejo Game Colors) Parasite Brown mixed with your Red (transition to the true Red farther to the inside), then add in Cobra Leather, then Bleached Bone, and a touch of Skull White. So if I started out with Red Gore or Scar Red, this shouldn't be a problem. The Blood Red is MUCH brighter in hue and I would avoid the Parasite Brown and work directly into the Cobra Leather.

The red base of the Parasite Brown helps the transition over, and it's not so harsh in my estimation. The Cobra Leather with (or without) Bleached Bone and leveled up with Skull White is a standard of mine. Adding the Bleached Bone is more for "skeletal/horn" work, and adding Skull White to the Cobra Leather is more of my standard "leather" work.

But that's just a few thoughts from this painter. Good luck!

That makes a lot of sense Jester, I think I might actually be able

to do that. But one question, do you happen to know the equivalent

of Vermin Brown for Vallejo Model Colour? Looking at the GW pallet

and comparing them with Vallejo, my guess would be Orange Brown

but I'm not sure

I know that the VGC Parasite Brown is equivalent to the GW Vermin Brown, but for the Model Color, I'm not entirely sure on the mix. Orange-Brown may be the closest, but I don't have a bottle on hand, so I am not entirely sure about that.
