Members SamuraiJack
I've got several dragons that have horns that are more like antlers.. I've looked at various bone/horn tutorials, but as these have multiple branches. Maybe something closer to driftwood? I'm not sure. kitchen_wolf
Crazy Big image of elk: http://remagazine.coop/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/elk.jpg I'd say that your driftwood idea is pretty close, although it's kind of like reversed horns - the antlers get pale at the tip instead of darker. It'd be so much easier if he were in velvet: Spoiler Got flock?
Talae
I could see going with more of a carved wood look.

Darkmeer
Look up Asian Lung/Chinese/Korean/Japanese dragons, that could also be a source of inspiration. Some of them have very intricate, antler-like horns, which could work for inspiration. This is certainly a western dragon head, but the horns are definitely unique. I'm looking forward to how you tackle this.
Glitterwolf
Interesting bust! Look at pictures of Stags, Moose, Elk and such. Some are more brown others more grey.
BLZeebub
There's always clean ivory. I know tusks won't be pristine white in nature, but these are dragons after all. Darkmeer's Asian dragon suggestion made me think of the ivory/bone white horns on some of the lung (dragons). Or you could even go metallic (True, or NMM might look good on those in particular), depending on the rest of the model's coloration.
Guildenstern
oooh driftwood would be very cool or wood in general, like a polished dark wood? I mean wood can come in so many colours! That is a really really cool bust!
Members SamuraiJack
I made some progress on getting older wood to look aged on my Shipwreck maiden but I'm not sure if I want an aged wood look or more of a bleached wood look..
Mad Jack
Given the design of that piece, and in particular the sort of root-looking things on his chest, I'd definitely go with wood... What colors are you using on the dragon? A dark green?
tiniest rhombus
That bust is amazing. I like the driftwood idea quite a bit. Then the dragon could be all foresty colors. Maybe an autumn theme.
Members SamuraiJack
I was definitely leaning towards a green palette although the autumn idea is intriguing
RouterMike
OK, so that bust is amazing. I know we can't provide links to retail pages, but can you provide a manufacturer and model name?
Members SamuraiJack
look on etsy for 'resin dragon bust' company is MiRAArtsSG out of Hong Kong.. its a little over priced for the size, but it is pretty spectacular and was the best packed resin item I've ever gotten.. everything was wrapped in bubble wrap pretty heavily.
Xauhaudoom
Maybe the Khaki Triad color, or Folk Art craft paint has a driftwood color.
