Kobold Command, Otherworld Miniatures KB4

Recommended Posts

They are NASTY Little Puppies. Other World does make SPLENDID miniatures; your brushwork & color selection have made them better. The Group shot with the BEAUTIFUL scenery is a gem. VERY WELL DONE!

I recently finished a group of Reaper Bones miniatures. As they are so small they were a little hard to paint at some points. I'm fairly new painting miniatures so I was looking for some feedback and potentially some tips on how to improve in the future. All comments, advice, and constructive criticism is welcome.

My own main criticism with them is the highlights as I'm not 100% where/how to paint proper highlights to make a natural look without a ton of brush strokes.

So, before I go any further, I am an absolute rookie in the mini painting world. So, uh, prepare for the worst.

Anyways, here's a trio of Kobold leaders. Yeah, I know there's six of them, but one got lost and the other two need a good bit more work, so it's just these three for now.

As I said, I'm completely new to this hobby, so any friendly critiques are welcome!

      KNOWN FAULTS:
I missed a couple spots on the first kobold leader's face.
And a few other random spots elsewhere on all three.
All of their bases look nasty...
I didn't do their eyes, as I want to get a bit more familiar with this before I try doing something like that.

The term "Kobold" is originally German for "goblin", "gnome" or "faery", the scary and dangerous beings from outside the campfire's light in preindustrial times.

In D&D the name has been used on 1st level mooks who used to be doglike goblinoids but these days are dragonkin, i.e. small reptiliads.

These newer kobolds from Reaper are very much more dragon- or reptile-like than earlier versions that might have been doglike...

There are 12 of them in the Bones 4 core set. 6 mooks and 6 leaders.

      #103-108: Kobold Leaders

These are the slightly more powerful kobolds. Some of them might even be 2nd level!
      Numbered left to right, #103-#108.

Also note the many mammary glands on #105. These are supposed to be reptilian?

      #75-#80: The Kobold Mooks

      Numbered left to right, #75-#80.

Not by best work by far. I did four different colour combinations, three of each.

After these there are only 3 models left in the core set to go!

12 1st level mooks vs 1 12th level barbarian berserker. Who will win? Ready! Steady! Fight!

      #103-108 Kobold Leaders
      #75-80 Kobold Mooks
      Bones 4 Core set, 2019
      Reaper Miniatures
      unknown sculptor
      Made in Bonesium PVC
should be available from reapermini.com some time in the future in Bones.

I base coated this guy (Otherworld Shadow 1 of 2) in Reaper Nightmare Black (a gorgeous blue-black) and drybrush highlighted with a 50/50 mix of Oceanic Blue and Pure White.

I think he looks done! Thoughts? Too heavy on the dry brush? I plan to use some Vallejo Ground Texture on the base. Happy to hear comments and criticism.

Love these guys, I may have to buy the other versions Otherworld has of their cultists. I love how all of their models look the way I envision D&D.
