The Progress marches on.  Today I managed to get the ax painted up NMM style.  I used the same colors I used for the white.  Still need to finish up the belt and ax handle.  Then on to the base.

NMM and White:(from darkest to lightest and all RMS)

Dusky Skin

Dusky Skin Highlight

Weathered Stone

Leather White

Pure White

And here was the result

Okay. I can see some resemblance. Obviously this is Sanas daughter. But who is the father?

Well, moar work on the base.  The next step I do is glues and grit.  I apply glues to areas that are barren or I feel could use some more interest.  I then apply multiple sizes of sand and stones.  Starting with the largest then move on to the smallest.  If I wanted even larger stones I would probably glue them before this.  Though thinking again, I probably should have put down tufts of grass before this.  I also cut some hairs off a used up brush to act as tall grass that I put into the crack in the cork between the stump and the Kid (I don't think you can see it from the photos.  I should mention that I had hand drilled a hole in her back foot.  I than drilled a hole in the base where I wanted her to stand.

"Who are you?"

"Me? Ah - don't mind me. I am just an obscure bystander."

"You are? You look like a big talking mushroom."

"Yeah ... I mean ... what a nice axe you've got there. It's pretty sharp, isn't it?"

"It is. You can chop a guy in half. That's not something you can do every day!"

"Sounds like your favorite 80's action film."

"What's that?"

"Never mind. My name is Fungal Spire."

"Barbaria Cutthem."

I know ^^

There is a giant mess in my head. And this mess just created a wonderful cartoon/anime-esque intro movie, using some of the characters shown here and the Red Hot Chili Pipers' "The Pig Jigs" song as BGM. Haha. Couldn't end a day better ;-D

With Grin out of the way and my system, time to get back to this project.  Now I've said it lots of times, It still feels that working on a base is like painting another miniature.  So after finishing the figure I get this feeling that drags me down a bit saying "but I already finished the figure, why do I have to paint another," (aka the base).  But I continued on today and made a bunch of progress on the base.  I tried using my phone to document my progress on the base.  Yet, somehow the photos never got saved.   So I retook the last one on where it stands before I start the kid's 'friend' Fungal Spire.  Yes, I'm totally stealing that.

Now, I also got F.S. primered up to paint as well. I'm thing of going with the classic Orange-Red w/ white dots to contrast the blue.

Hi there all, I've decided to dive into the deep end with finally trying the scary world of OSL. 😄

Feel I've lost the plot on this ... so any advice on how to proceed with this would be greatly appreciated! (Having fun, though, despite not knowing what the hell I'm doing. 😁)

I'm including a "top down" view, which is where I'm most confuddled. That dark line down his arm which represents the shadow from the staff which sits between the source of light ... it just doesn't look right to me.  🤔

So, I'm all ears for suggestions on improvements!

Not sure what to do with those bodies in webs on the slot. Need to go back and look at the pics to see if I should cut them or see if I have a spare slotta base to stand them up.

      Hello

This is my first post really on forums.  I normally post on Facebook. My wife and I paint models alot of the time side by side. Whilst I prep our quarterly contest entry we worked on these Storm Giants...  About half way done.

Most of these aren't up to date and I've changed bits of them here and there since these, I'll be saving those shots for the finished product, but hopefully you enjoy the journey.

Got another one of these simple townsfolk done.  I find they make a great opening salvo for the weekend before getting rolling.  They are more or less my practice pieces to try a few things before getting going.  Here he is - the farmer and his hoe.

      BATTLE REPORT!

      Wins:
      *  Keeping the palette very simple:Brown, Orange, Cream, Flesh - worked well.
      *  Washes of Nuln oil on the shirt, pants, hood.  Looks good and helped dull the colors like work clothes.
      *  Used Agrax on the leggings and the shoes and the hoe to give a more dirty apperance.
      *  I used a mix of buff and white streaks, then washed it with Agrax to give the wood appearance.  Not bad.
      *  Flesh was Rosy Shadow - why I used that color, I have no idea - and I did a fleshwash on it.  Then brought it back up with rosy shadow, then again did it with a little added buff.

      Misses:
      *  I really want to learn how to wood grain.  I can't figure it out or do it well and need some help there.
      *  I also am not a fan of this guy's skin.  I still don't get how to use the triads really well.  Or which skin tone to use for which kind of character.  It's why I like doing beasts or fantastical creatures because skin isn't really a concern.  Could use direction here if anyone is open.
      *  Didn't want to use metal colors, so I just did a black to white to grey fade on the working end of the hoe.  Meh.
      *  The highlights I went back in on the leggings, hood, and shirt are a bit much.  Almost look washed out.  Not sure what went wrong going back over the same areas with the colors after washing, but oh well.

For basing this guy - open to ideas.  I'm thinking just a simple 1" base and nothing complicated.  I'll do whatever someone suggests first.
