Badger Stynylrez Primer

I got a bottle of Badger Stynylrez primer in my Reapercon swag bag, as did those of you that got one, and I just tried it out on some 1/4" blue insulation foam for a project the other evening, and it did NOT eat the foam in any way, shape, or form.

 

I shot it through my airbrush, thinned about 50% with W&N Flow improver and water....

Is the propellant in rattlecans that's usually to blame for eating foam.  Vallejo, Badger, Reaper and other brushable/airbrushable should all be safe assuming you don't put anything too harsh in as a thinner.

Everybody here is sick of me saying this, I'm sure. But those Liquitex spray paints do not eat foam. You can freely spray them right from the can.

At about 25-30 psi, I spray the badger stynylrez straight from the bottle. Great adhesion and coverage without loss of detail.

 

Maybe I should try it out with water or airbrush medium and see if there are differences in adhesion. Something to consider when I get back home.

And here I used my Stynylrez primer as paint-on primer on my Bones instead of Reaper liner.

 

I thought I was being original.

I mostly use Stynylrez now when I'm priming with my airbrush.

I'm about to order some of this magic plastic primer and am debating between a set of six colors (black, gray, white, olive, yellow, and red-brown), the set of three (black, gray, and white), or just a larger bottle of a single color.  My concern is that if I get one of the multipacks some of them may sit unused until I find a need for them.  Any input on how well it reacts to long periods of neglect?

I spray straight from the bottle (well shaken) at 12psi or less.

Paasche VL .556 needle (1 grove), 25psi straight from the bottle.  No issues.  Recommendation is directly from Badger Rep whom I spoke to at AdeptiCon.

 

I usually go black primer and then highlight with grey.  I have not had a chance to use their colored primers but I am interested in their metal colored version.

So I've been using the Black and grey primers, and my .3mm Grex does NOT like them uncut....

Even at 20+psi....

Works great cut 50% with water though....

I use a Badger Renegade Velocity with the .3 ultra fine needle.

My attempt to prime with my GREX required so much cleaning of the airbrush that I went back to brush priming. I have debated buying a cheap Harbor Freight airbrush for priming...

I have to say that after hearing about difficulties folks are having using this primer in the various types of airbrushes I'm glad that I have switched over to Badger. I do have a cheap harbor freight airbrush that I intended to use for priming but I don't like how it handles so I ended up priming with the Velocity instead.
