SOldcorn
Cunningly I have lost my CAV rule book, hopefully it will turn up soon, however could someone please tell me the breakdown of a Terran Legion (eg 2 x regiments, 3 x battalions etc) and to what level the unit would have names (ie alpha company, 2nd Battalion "Star Chasers", 47th Legion "Legion of the Damned"). Not that I am planning to field part of a legion or anything :D. Thanks Stuart
Akela
Terrans use fancy terms for concepts that we know today as Corps, Battalion, Regiment, Company, etc. A "full strength" Terran Ground/Aerospace Legion would be under the command of a Prefect (Lieutanant General) and would be headquartered in a single location. For example, the elite Terran 10th has its recruitment/administrative headquarters in Rome, Italy, Earth and would be made up of: 6 Cohorts each under the command of a Tribune (Major General) Each Cohort would have 8 Maniples each under the command of a Top Centurion (Brigadier General aka "1 Star"). Each Maniple would have 6 Centuries each under the command of a Senior Centurion (Full "Bird" Colonel). Each Century would be classed as either: Aerospace, Artillery, CAV, Recon, Infantry, Armor, Supply or "Combined" Terran 10th "Trajan's Columns" 2nd Century (also known as "The Wolves") has 1 Aerospace Century, 1 CAV Century, 1 Infantry Century, 1 Armor Century, 1 Artillery Century, 1 Combined Support Century (Recon/Supply) An Infantry/Armor Century has 6 Battalions, each Battalion has 4 Companies, each Company has 4 Squads, each squad has 4 Teams or 4 Vehicles, Infantry Teams have 4 Legionnaires. The CAV Century has 4 Turmas, each Turma has 5 Troops, each Troop has 4 CAVs/Vehicles The Artillery Century has 3 Detachments, each Detachment has 4 Batteries, each Battery has 4 Guns/Launchers The Aerospace Century has 3 Detachments, each Detachment has 5 Wings, each Wing (aka "Flight Section") has 4 aircraft The Combined Century has 3 Supply Battalions and 2 Recon Turmas. This chart should help you with Terran Ranks (the O ratings are as per the US Army) 2nd Lt O-1 Lieutenant O-2 Captain O-3 Major O-4 Centurion O-5 (Lt. Colonel) Senior Centurion O-6 (Full "Bird" Colonel) Top Centurion O-7 (Brigadier General) Tribune O-8 (Major General) Prefect O-9 (Lieutenant General) Consular General O-10 (General aka "Four Star") As far as unit size/comparison to the US army... it doesn't convert as smoothly... but a modern day Regiment is roughly the same as a U.F.F. Century. -- Edit -- You can find the "official" Terran "rondel" marking system in the JoR on page 11 for Cohort down to Section. So an example CAV: "Big Blue" piloted by 2nd Lieutenant John Doe 2nd Troop Section 4th Turma 1st Century III Cohort 10th Legion "Trajan's Columns" 1st Federal Force Europe, Earth A Legionnaire might be: Legionnaire John Smith Fire Team D 1st Squad C Company 2nd Battalion 4th Century II Cohort 43rd Legion "White Knights" 1st Federal Force Alpha Centauri
SOldcorn
Thanks for the info very useful. I am somewhat surprised at the size of the Legion, creating each maniple with the example you gave (a bit unrealisitic but simple) it means that a legion consists of the following CAVs : 5760 Armour : 18432 Gunships : 2880 Artillery : 2304 Infantry : 18432 (bases) Supply : 8256 Personnel : 171,840 not including non combat personnel (eg MPs, Comms, Payroll etc) WOW What would one legion be expected to defend / attack. As the Terran force seems to create Centuries of a specific element eg CAV or Armour, these would then be broken apart to form combined arms "task forces" / "teams" that would actually take to the field ? Finally what would a CAV cost and how much would the average Terran earn per year. Sorry to pester with "fluff questions" but like to get a feel for these things. Good news is I found my rulebook. Thanks Stuart
Leech
I think this kind of information would be very useful for all of us... even mercs and the like :o) The reason being that we need to know what if a feasible mission for our units. What I mean is, is a company enough to defend a city? Is a Regiment (single battalion) enough to take a world and is a brigade (that's a large merc unit :o)) enough to defend a system. These all came up last night, and it's useful to have, both for writing scenarios and specialising TO&E's and also for those of us who like to write a little fan fiction once in a while. Black Lightning 2
2nd Lt O-1Lieutenant O-2 Captain O-3 Major O-4 Centurion O-5 (Lt. So, if we play the Roman... Errr... Terran Legion, do we have to use the stuffy english accents? Has anybody seen Monty Python's The Life of Brian? Hilarious... Bigus Dicus. OMG... I kill me!

Akela
Legions have no additional manpower in support, they are self contained. Usually an entire Maniple will be dedicated to support, depending on the nature of the Legion (maybe more, maybe less). Some Legions might also put more support in the actual Cohorts themselves, the above example is a Combat Maniple. Each Prefect dictates how resources in his or her Legion gets sub-organized so long as it complies with UFF Command doctrine from Terra. The Space Fleet would also replace a Maniple or Cohort (or be scattered within the Legion). The true Federal Fleets (there aren't that many) have no ground forces but the bulk of the Terran "Space Navy" is wrapped up in the Legions for transport, etc.
