Moderator Froggy the Great Posted November 15, 2002 Moderator Share Posted November 15, 2002 Frogs, not rabbits... What were we talking about again?
Leech
The breakdown of a Terran legion. And the numbers look scary.... Especially when you take into account that each Federal Force has 70 Legions (according to the rulebook). So, assuming 5 'Forces' and a total population of the Terran 'empire' of 60 trillion (60,000,000,000,000) then you're looking at 1% of the entire population being under arms (60,000,000,000)... and that's a lot of soldiers! Still, the Terrans are militant and aggressive, so they probably need that many troops to safeguard their worlds and conduct their offensive moves. Moderator Froggy the Great Posted November 15, 2002 Moderator Share Posted November 15, 2002 That's one heck of a lot of troops. Compare that to a more militant society like the Rach, and you're talking about a veritable ant-swarm (aunt-swarm? Maybe) of soldiers. Leech
Yeah. If these numbers are correct (even ballpark correct) then I'd expect the Rach to be an order of magnitude larger than the Terrans - percentage wise that is, not actual figure. Akela
Actually the Terrans are every bit as militant as the Rach. The plasma bombing of Earth was less than 100 years before the beginning of a standard CAV campaign. There are *very* few Terran families who did not lose great uncles/aunts, grandparents, or relatives in that generation. There are still grandparents alive who fought the Rach and parents who remember the stories of their parents about how "Earthers" were treated when they first joined the galaxy at large. One theme of sci-fi we were sick of was "Terrans are weak, Terrans are peaceful, Terrans just want to explore the galaxy but there are bigger meaner aliens out there"... blech. CAV universe Terrans *are* one of the meanest SOBs in the Galaxy. For those of you who have experience with them... Terrans are like Fire Ants. Anyway, back to the thread - the Terrans learned about Galactic politics and power the hard way. It's a matter of perception. Terrans are armed to the teeth in *defense* of their empire (as Frank put it)... the Rach are armed as a matter of genetics and culture. By Imperial Decree and Tradition - the 1 member in 10 of the Rach race is of the warrior caste. Assume another 1 in 20 waiting for the chance to join. A little less than 1 in 100 is of the Imperial Caste which is another aspect of the militant arm of the Rach Empire.
Leech
So my guess was correct, the Terrans are militant bastards and they have 1 in a 100 under arms while the Rach have 1 in 10 under arms. Matt, I like this role for the Terrans... we're too militant, small minded and arrogant a species to play the cutesy and cuddely role. These humans I can believe, there's a lot of us in them :o)
Moderator Froggy the Great Posted November 15, 2002 Moderator Share Posted November 15, 2002 Eep. I think the only reason the Frogs of War aren't allied with Terra is that everyone else who plays CAV seems to be. Earth or Rach, I've noticed. Oh well. We do accept payment by way of edible enemies...
Leech
Not everyone Frosch, but most ppl :o)
KaiMaster
All the Terrans need now is Lee Greenwood to write a new theme song... "And I'm proud to be a Terran, where at least I know I'm free... And I won't forget the men who got Rach-bombed, who gave this life to me... and I'll proudly stand up..." Terrans are freaks but cool da mn freaks. †And a joy to work for. Steel Griffins work for whomever provides a satisfactory amount of the Benjamins... we are professionally neutral after all  where there's a whip, there's a way... hehe
Moderator Froggy the Great Posted November 15, 2002 Moderator Share Posted November 15, 2002 "The Froggings Shall Continue Until Morale Improves." Indeed. On the other hand, I hadn't realized how cool the Terrans were before that little bit of numerology.
Chrome
Terrans need such large numbers of forces because their martial prowress pales in comparison to the true warriors born in Ritterlich.
Moderator Froggy the Great Posted November 15, 2002 Moderator Share Posted November 15, 2002 And the strategic prowess of those born in Ritterlich pales in comparison to, say, a herd of bison. "Ribbit?" "Ya, I heard of bison. what about them?"
Chrome
Ahhh, I feel much better now that I have the correct avatar. Thanks Kit!
Leech
Style and form don't make up for function and effectiveness. You can have the Rach, or Ritterlich or whomever you chose. The result is the same when the Werewolves cometh... death, destrction and mass and wholesale slaughter. It feels good to be insane... people cut you more leeway when you wipe the enemy out to the man :o)
