Breaking Through A Wall

Recommended Posts

Perhaps I am not searching with good search terms, but I'm having trouble finding ways to deal with a figure breaking through a wall.  I have some rough ideas and I'll be happy to document this as I go through it, but I was wondering if anyone knew of a tutorial or even finished pieces where a miniature was breaking through a wall.  Mine will not be leading with a fist, it will be a full body and seeing how much debris I can make realistically expand outward on the other side.

Currently I'm thinking a wooden wall, but may look at stone and wood as I go through this.  Mainly I want the wood beam so I can slide a figure up and back to make it more dramatic... at least that's how it appears in my mind.  Achieving that may be an entirely different experience.

Look at comics, many superheroes/villainsget punched through a wall at some time.

Maybe such drawings can help you translate it to 3D.

Ok, so I've been looking through comic book sequences and have a few...

I actually figured there would be more of Juggernaut... it's kind of his thing, but most are showing him after he's already gone through the wall...

And kind of the same thing with hulk.  Lots of motion implied and lots of closeups, but few showing a full body going through a wall.

And these are good, but don't show much of a 3-D structure and drawings don't have to support the weight of the model or the pieces that need to look like they are flying.  The Juggernaut one at least shows breaking boards....

May have to break some Balsa for Science.  And may need to get an accomplice and setup my camera behind a piece of glass with some test walls and take high speed shots... Hmmm...

This should be all you need.

Ed:  Actually, check out comic books specifically with Luke Cage in them.  I feel like mostly he busts through brick walls.

Ohhhhhhh yeah!!!!!
