Well, I figured that the market for cactus-folk was small enough that I shouldn't wait on it, so I decided to get to work on a Saguaro Cowboy and a Cactus Dryad. I got the inspiration to get up and get to work when I saw a picture of a crested saguaro:
which really settled the question of "how do I put dryad hair on a cactus lady and make it work?"
Twisted up an armature for a dude and a lady,
and started slapping green stuff on.
Here's a very rough outline of the dryad's torso with a preliminary series of grooves, almost none of which will probably make it to the finished product.
Both she and the lariat-wielding saguaro vaquero will have blunt, stubby feet and arms with little muscle or joint definition, both because that's how saguaros do and because I am...not a professional sculptor by a long chalk.
C&C welcome; this is the rough draft of the first draft of each of them and I'll be doing a lot of trimming and repositioning, no doubt.
Yet another new mini, this time it's The Visarch, a mysterious Elfin knight.
I wasn't actually planning on starting him yet, but made a nice dark red mix for something else that I thought would look great on the inside of his cape:-
It's 1:1 Scarlett Red/Black > Black Wash > 1:1 Scarlett Red/Black > 1:1 Scarlett Red/Black with a brushtipful of Ochre Yellow.
Since this guy jumped the queue it could be a while before anything else happens to him.
Recently finished up this mini for a 5e character I made recently (Wood Elf Rogue). The slot base connector snapped during the prep stage, so I decided to rebase the mini and add some leaves as custom terrain (painted birch seeds).
Started working on this guy today for one of my player.
Since I'm a "newbie" and have no experience in working with skin, I was wondering if Reaper's Flesh Wash would look ok with the Elf Flesh base-coat for the skin.
For the hair, the player want him to be carrot-top with a touch of grey. The could prove to be interesting.
I'm also looking for suggestions for his clothing. almost anything is fair game, all though the campaign setting is in a desert/desolation area.
A couple of my players/friends gave me this and a gelatinous cube for Christmas and said, "Please don't kill us!" So hopefully he won't smush their characters too much!
I wanted to give him a little bit of color so I did some purple and pink on some of the leaves as well as bright mushrooms. I used a few tufts of foliage and moss on him. I didn't want to overdo it and cover too much of the figure. I like how he came out.
