No actual release date yet, but it's coming 'soon'.

There's a new website that GW made for this release, but it still (eventually, after a lot of clicking) leads to their store so I won't link it. It has some neat information there if you're at all interested.

I'm not gonna link it, but I'll give you a place to start your Googling!<<<<I'm pretty sure that's a real word.

warhammer-community dot com

Just do the usual, add a (www.) in front of the bolded words above, remove the spaces and replace the word(dot) with a .

AAAHHH !

I'm surprised everyone couldn't hear me screaming when I checked my email earlier and discovered this amazing news. Between Reaper and Games Workshop, I'm going to be broke big time. I mean, I already am. Still...

I was making a new army anyway so here's my motivation. Funny thing is, I've ordered so much stuff from GW over the years that I don't have to buy anything else for this army. I guess you could call it my "surplus army". (Get it? Instead of army surplus, I said surplus army. I'm the cool one :B):!)

All current codices will not be compatible with the new edition. Likely, GW will make you buy new copies.

Do not forget certain units will become obsolete, so you will have to buy new units.

There may be some weapons that will have to be replaced.

So instead of remodelling you might "want" to buy some new squads.

And of course there will be a new super expensive effective warmachine released, without which you won't stand a chance against the enemy forces.

After all it's not about the game but about the money!

possibly a recently rediscovered behemoth of ANCIENT TECHNOLOGY, with a base larger than the footprint of my entire 3rd edition army...

or you know a space marine matryoshka with 4 or more layers.

Although I guess it is hard to go deeper into silly huge when you already have two returned primarch's, a titan, a gundam, and the avatar of a nascent god stalking the table.

anyway I'll likely skip this, necromunda is more my speed.

There's an FAQ out about the new edition, you can find it on the aforementioned 40K website. Here's some pertinent info:

All codex books will be obsolete, but new "low-cost books" will be available for army rules, while the core rules will be free to download.

All current armies and miniatures will be supported in the new edition.

The new edition will take cues from AoS and use the "three ways to play" concept (open, narrative and matched play).

Sadly, after the cluster**** mishandling of Shadow War: Armageddon, and their apparent continued contempt for their own community, I'm done with supporting GW.

are you talking about a mis-execution of the release, or the rules? because while the ruleset is hardly necromunda, it doesn't look like a bad product to me. I watched a friend play 'aliens' with a trio of tyranid warriors; the selection of kill teams is limited, but definitely distinct and thematic.

I'm not likely to got back into 40k (I got out during the start of the finecast debacle) but shadow war is a decent limited campaign system. not quite frostgrave, similar to blood bowl.
