Lars Porsenna
If you look at the stats for the new Uber-marines I posted above, grenades have only a 6" range, well within charge range for a lot of critters (average charge would be 7" on a 2d6). So if all models can toss grenades, it would really punish failed chargers, but OTOH useless against a successful charge...unless you can overwatch fire with grenades (at 3+ BS & a -1 overwatch penalty) at D6 grenades you'd get 3 per model for 15 attacks, half those grenades would hit (7.5) doing an 1 hit each (total 7.5) at S3 (vs T3) for a total of 3.75 wounds that are saveable. If you have a 5+ save then it goes down to 2.475 kills (or 4.95 with a total of 10 tossing models). It does sound pretty powerful (now that my math is correct), but overwhelmingly so? useful against horde armies certainly... Lars Porsenna
BTW, above assumes you can use grenades in overwatch! Damon.
Dai-Mongar
Seems more fitting that assaulting troops should be able to throw grenades before completing a charge.
Mehman
I might get a squad of these new marines. I'm not sold on them yet. Do they look cool? Sure, but refer to my previous post on how many Space Marine forces I currently own. To be honest, I'm still happy with my normal genetically-altered super humans. Reading the FAQ they posted about these Primaris Space Marines, they'll be getting other units, too, so it's not just these "Intercessors". My Iron Hands' Iron Father is unsure about this matter.
Dai-Mongar
I'm actually considering building up a Blood Angels force, myself. I have the terminators from Space Hulk, as well as a bunch of scouts, so not an insignificant start to an army. The only thing that might put me off getting some Primaris Marines is the price, but even then a single squad could look quite cool.

You get access to the Baal Predator - that's enough to start a force ! I like Assault Marines so I went with the Flesh Tearers (they were picked for other reasons, too). You might as well make the force. You know you want to.
Sergeant_Crunch
I'll end up getting some, if for no other reason than I like the models. Although, the Crimson Fists have been understrength...I'm sure Uncle Guilliman gave them some.

Damon. Almost as if frag grenades are defensive. It have long been a private bugbear of mine that the frag grenades are classified as assault grenades and the flash grenades are called defensive grenades. Jeneki
Back in 2nd edition frag grenades were short-ranged AoE attacks as well. In the starter game box set they were pretty nasty against the ork side.
Club
I'm willing to bet that the increase in stats is going to be cheaper in points (If not cash) that it should be. Gotta sell those kits to people who have entire chapters already.
izzylobo
Welp, we have an actual release date now (not linking because commerce?) Pre-order - June 3 Initial release - June 17 Core Rules - free on the website Main rulebook - 280 pages, includes all of the advanced rules like Stratagems, more missions, setting fluff, etc. Indexes - two copies each for Imperium and Xenos, one for Chaos. Should cover "every Citadel 40k model sold " - whether that includes Forgeworld is unclear. Dark Imperium - Boxed set, includes rules, dice, and codices for the two forces - Primaris Marines and Death Marines of Nurgle The box shows off some new Primaris units - Spoiler (In order - Intercessor Marine squad (box comes with two), Hellblaster squad, Inceptor squad, 2 Primaris Lieutenants (one with power sword, one with auto bolt rifle), a Primaris Ancient, and a Captain in Gravis (nuTerminator?) Armor). I'm not sure I'm sold on the bolter pistols with the little shields, but dem jetpacks tho... and the plasma rifles are whizzer. I'm hoping the more dynamic version of the Gravis armor allows for weapon options other than a wrist bolter. (The Nurgle faction has a squad of Plague Marines, a squad of Pox Walkers, a Daemon Engine called a Bloat Drone, and three champions - Lord of Contagion, Noxious Blightbringer, and Malignant Plaguecaster). Additionally, Forgeworld has announced that they have two Imperial Armour (Adeptes Astartes and Chaos) books in the pipe for release on the 17th, covering all of their Space Marine and Chaos models in 8th edition respectively, and has additional Imperial Armour books due out for the other factions (presumably Imperium and Xenos) by the end of June. aku-chan
I quite like the look of the Nurgley dudes (except the Plaguecaster, he's funky looking but not in a good way), but that little voice in the back of my head that's telling me I have 2 mostly unpainted GW starter sets already and I don't really need a third makes a good point.
Dai-Mongar
That's a sweet-looking starter set. I'll likely just stick with the indexes to stay with, but I don't think I can resist the Dark Imperium box.
Dilvish the Deliverer
I'd prefer Eldar or Orks. But I figure they know what is most popular. the longer this pre-release hype goes on, the more tempted I am to dip a toe back in.
Sergeant_Crunch
Now all I'd like to know is the price point on all of these things. I've already decided to get back in, so at a minimum I'm going to need the rulebook, three of the indices, and some new models to replace lost/damaged ones.
