The person I ordered from said it would be a few weeks to get in the other books for me because of the company being bogged-down and the lack of product in their warehouses. I call elf on that one.

Dunno, but my FLGS told me the same thing, so there might be some truth to this. This is a the same store that took the time out to email me personally to thank me for my business and lavish spending habits, that helped them get off the ground in the early years. So there is a big fat F (in the good sense) in front of that LGS for me...

That's good that there's some truth to what was said. Also, I'm super jelly that you've got such a great store. No, I'm actually happy that you have it ^_^.

Many years ago, the LGS used to do things like put special orders on the shelf - 'If someone buys it and the guy that ordered it orders another, then it's a free sale!' (Quoting, I'm afraid.)

Also didn't order Assault Marine miniatures 'Because we haven't sold any in months!' - they also hadn't had any in months....

We have had bad luck with local game stores, I'm afraid - including one that got shut down by the Feds. (The sign in their window advertising that 'Yes, we have bootleg movies and music!' may have had something to do with that....)

Another that would run tourneys - with prizes - that the store owner would always win....

A fair amount of interest in the new 40K, locally - rather a big difference to the response that was garnered by AoS.

The Auld Grump - the phrase 'a dog turd rolled in glitter' was used to describe AoS - and not by me!

So is this the new Rhino? Or the Rhino with the tank turret (Predator?)?

One of my beefs with 40K is that they have been waging war, in the far future, with mostly WW1 technology. (Well except for their guns and lasers, which have lower effective ranges than handgunners from the War of The Roses.)

So, good on them for re-inventing early 22nd century hovertank propulsion. Now they are only 18 centuries behind the tech level they should be at.

(edit: wait, 40,000AD minus 2200AD is how many centuries..?..I may need a goblin to calculate this...)

.

To be fair, it looks like they started with an M-113 chassis. Probably because of the aluminum armor, since it's lighter and thus easier to lift. <_<

That made me laugh. Honestly I haven't even looked at the AoS rules because I've already found my preferred fantasy game and I'm not a fan of the new look and names. I won't cut anybody down for playing it or liking the models but it just ain't for me.

Right then, here goes an all-army update for the new Edition. These are in no particular order as I don't play favourites. Much.

Space Marines

Iron Hands - They will be updated with models who are already built but are awaiting a spray undercoat. These will then be painted to match the rest of the force. No new models in the foreseeable future.

Flesh Tearers (Blood Angels Successor) - All backlogged Space Marine models will be used to make this force. Might as well use my surplus of marines for something new instead of adding them to the Iron Hands. There will be no Blood Angel Upgrade Sprues used as I don't like the barbaric Flesh Tearers to have Renaissance-era gear.

Clerics (DIY Dark Angels Successor) - They will be put on hold for now as I lack the funds to flesh them out properly. Maybe in a few years they'll get picked back up but not now. They were an excellent first-foray into Chapter-making but there are so many other models to work on that adding more power armoured ones doesn't make sense.

Space Wolves - Except for a Space Hulk Terminator contingent, they will be placed on hold. This is for the same reasons as the Clerics; ie, no money and little incentive.

Grey Knights - Long has this force been dormant. The plan is to revive them with a new paint job and some new character models. I've got several conversions in the works including a Brotherhood Champion made from a Black Templar Emperor's Champion and a Grey Knight Chaplain. The latter will probably be run as a Captain until I can make up his rules.

Imperial Forces

93rd Ostheim 7th Company "Timber Wolves" (Imperial Guard) - Always adding more meat to the grinder! More character models will need to be converted and an armoured company created but this force continues as-is.

23rd Cetan "Dire Wolves" (Militarum Tempestus) - These Scions will be put on indefinite hold for another project involving the models that were slated for this force. I like their colour scheme but I'm not crazy about it.

Ecclesiarchy Force (Militarum Tempestus / Ministorum Priests) - This is my big conversion force. The Scion side of the group will need to ramp-up it's building and painting and I'll need more inspiration to create more Priests. This shouldn't be too hard a task.

Inquisition (Including Inq28) - My hopes for this force have long since been snuffed out. Sad, really, as converting for this group was pretty fun. It just wasn't for me, I guess.

Imperial Knight House - Last year or so, I sold off my Knights and almost the rest of my 40k collection due to health reasons. I'm glad I stuck with it all now. Anyway, selling off my two Freeblades allowed me to begin fresh with this Faction. I refrained from selling my two new in box Knights - one the updated Warden version and the other a Paladin/Errant - and so have the beginnings of a new Knight House. Forge World may even see some of my money for the High King's steed. We'll see.

Chaos

Chaos Space Marines - I don't own any Chaos elements for 40k but I could see beginning a force for this Edition. This isn't to say the group will be started anytime soon, though. Of course, I'd build and paint them under Malal/Malice's banner to match my Chaos Aelves of Malal for AoS and they'd most likely end up as Renegades. I like evil, but not too evil.

Xenos

Tau - Still haven't started this force and I see little reason to begin now. There seems to be a block whenever I try to create fluff or think about what to buy/build. I think I'll sell off the one squad I've got from the Kill Team box set. Well, maybe I'll paint it up just so I'll have some more enemies.

Tyranids - I like these guys. For years, I only played as the Imperium as they seemed like the lightest shade of grey in the galaxy. (I was raised on Westerns so this is no surprise.) One day, I decided to add some bad guys to the mix so that I could solo game something besides training missions. The plan for this force is to keep building, converting where I can, and painting the little buggers. I've got quite a few of these models so no need to buy anything as of yet.

Dark Eldar - I don't know when or how it happened but this is my new force. The Tyranids are a good bad guy group to have but they were too depersonalized to offer much in the way of fluff. I've fallen in love with their aesthetic and my mind finds it easy to be imaginative in both conversions and backstory. Here's the funny part: I need to buy a lot of models whereas my other forces need very little in the way of extra forces.

So, that's it. Some things ending, some new things beginning, and others finally being completed. Circle of life, I suppose. I hope everyone has a great new Edition!

I have to kinda admit, I'm jealous of those in earlier time zones right now.  My FLGS doesn't open for another four hours. I'm half tempted as a joke to go up there about 30 minutes before they open and sit by the door in a lawn chair. Wait, it's supposed to be over 100 today...nevermind.

For some reason this release has me interested in the game again. I have always liked and picked up certain of their new models over the years that I liked (sucker for both Eldar and Tau) but haven't played in many many years. Ordered the new box set online and hoping it arrives today or Monday - will be the first Space Marines I have purchased since the original box set of plastics they did like in 1988 or 89 I think it was? That was an amazing set on miniatures frankly - had never seen anything like that set at the time... Wonder how much one of those original sets are running these days (off to ebay lol)

Post office just delivered the Dark Imperium box to my door.

1st impressions:

-wow the box is a lot smaller than i expected

-wow the box is a lot heavier than I expected

-the box is really crammed with stuff

-the plastic minis on first review look fantastic - very impressive

-rulebook has lots of pretty pictures and amazing shots of miniature armies etc

-nice assembly and brief paint guides for the minis

Now just need to figure out what marine chapter to paint these guys as. May just go with the the good ole Ultra Marines

Picked up my copy of Dark Millennium a couple of hours ago, walked into the back of my FLGS where a couple of dudes were working on their boxes, and almost immediately was able to do a straight-up trade - my Death Guard (which I don't want) for a dude's Primaris Marines (which he wanted Nurgly Goodness more than). So now my Shield of Artemis chapter stands at 4 squads of Intercessors, 2 Hellblasters, 2 Inceptors, 4 Lieutenants, 2 Ancients, a Captain, and a Really-Truly Captain (  ) for a nice round total of 100 points.

Also got two of the Indices - Astartes and Xenos I, and as noted, they are amazing deals. This might be because they will relatively shortly be at least partially invalidated by Codices as they come out, but I'm pretty okay with this - they're still going to have at least some use, and in the mean time, they're pretty awesome.

Went to the store and picked up my BRB. I had paid for the Index: Xenos I last week, too, but returned the copy before I touched it. My mother bought all five Indices for my birthday (plus some AoS goodies) on GW's website so I didn't want to have two copies of anything. It seemed like stuff was happening up there but I left before anyone could snag me into too long of a conversation.

I wasnt keen on the Death Guard either but the minis are very well detailed (and gross) plus the painting guide on Warhammer TV shows them off well - now digging them...

Oh, the minis are amazing - all of the plastics  in this box are super-nice. But I'm not likely to play Chaos, like, ever, and if I do, it's probably going to be Thousand Sons (because the minis are sweet, and the backstory pretty durn tragic).
