Could they have been Mantic's space dwarves for their Warpath game?

I think they're called 'Forge Fathers'...

It was probably the AoS dwarfs but I didn't see any other AoS stuff and just lumped it in with all the 40K set that were laying about (it was the release weekend of 8th ed after all).

That said you could most likely use them as some sort of IG.  Just find a troop type that fits go.

There was a legal issue with GW's ownership of the Chaos god Malal, so they cannot use that particular character. The old story about squats is that when 2e rolled around, they got their own army list, but when it came around to updating the army & giving them new stuff & a fleshed out list, no one knew or wanted to do anything with them, so they were dropped. I'm personally not bothered about it, since I never liked the models or the "feel" that was developed around them, so I don't miss them at all...

Damon.

Doesn't stop me from using the heck out of him ^_^! My AoS army, as has probably already been said, are Chaos Aelves aligned with Malal - the "Host of Malal". For the Horus Heresy, the Death Guard Chapter I'm running will, in the end, side with Malal. My Dark Eldar are also working for Malal or, as he's known in 40k, Malice. If I decide to make a Chaos force for 40k, it'll be for Malice. Who am I kidding? Of course I'll make them. One day...

Well, I dug through all the minis I brought with me after the move, and aside from an already painted assassin, the only 40K mini I have with me is this Witch hunter inquisitor. So I started painting him.

I love this model so much. You can't buy this variant anymore and it makes me sick. Although with some converting and hopeful wishing an approximate can be made from the one GW still puts out.

I thought I remembered this was a limited edition mini, but it was so long ago... Glad to finally be able to give him some love!

I'd always heard that Squats died because of a dispute in which the artist, not GW themselves, claimed ownership of the IP and the models.

Couple of new starter sets being previewed today.

First Strike seems comparable to the Storm of Sigmar set for AoS, and includes the new Primaris Reiver squad (new marine commandos).

While the Know No Fear set is similar to the new AoS starter Thunder & Blood, containing stripped-down armies from the Dark Imperium box (one less squad each and only a single character). No big hardback book, but still includes the basic rules.

I really like this three-tier approach to starter sets that GW is going with now. The Dark Imperium set is a bit much for me I think, but either one of these boxes is enough to whet my appetite.

Looks like there is cardboard terrain?

Do both of these sets have Horrid, Squelshy, Malformed, Chaos marines?

(opposed by Smurf Marines...?)

If I had a ton of money** I would buy these sets and have someone paint all the regular marines bright metallic gold (like AoS Sigmarines) and I would buy all the AoS Sigmar boxes and have those painted UltraMarines Ultramarine Blue...just to see if I could make anyone's head explode.

**a ton of spare money, I mean a lot.

At least with the First Strike set, the cardboard terrain is actually the box turned inside out, which is quite cool, and the battle mat is paper.

And you're right, both sets have Squish Marines and Smurfs (though the marines don't actually have chapter iconography sculpted on).

Somewhat annoyed the First Strike set contains different minis to the Dark Imperium set (must have all the Nurgle minis!).

Hopefully, I can find someone selling their sprues on Ebay again.

Can you split it with someone who wants the smurfs?

I don't know anyone that would want them.

Plus, I don't play. So I don't really want all the game bits either.

I don't think they'll be too difficult to find separately, but I'm still annoyed.
