Here's what the book looks like: Quote Spoiler From the description on the Warhammer Community site: "[...] this 103-page guidebook is the perfect guide for any Warhammer 40,000 beginner, giving a thorough overview of the universe of the 41st Millennium, how the game works and the different armies you can collect. It also comes with an Easy to Build Intercessor and a set of core rules, allowing you to take the first steps of your journey for around the price of a White Dwarf." Wow, looking on Games Workshop website I found this book. It's only 8$ and it's perfect! Pretty cool! I will be ordering it soon. Again, thanks for informing about this. Are there any Chapters that Primaris Marines are not part of? Every chapter, whether Codex (like Black Templars, White Scars, Ultramarines, Howling griffons etc.), or non-codex, Grey Knights, Blood Angels, Space Wolves, etc. can use Primaris Marines per the rules. Each codex-compliant chapter gets everything except special characters that other chapters can use (BT don't get Roboute Guilliman, for example, unless your friends permit house rules) but they all get basically everything Ultramarines get, including Primaris. non-Codex Compliant chapters, like Space Wolves, don't get *everything* Ultramarines get, but they have a page that calls out what they DO get from the "codex marines" model selections. Fluff wise, the novel Dark Imperium established that 96% of all known Space Marine Chapters accepted permanent or temporary reinforcement from Primaris units. So 3 possible combinations are legal for literally every Space marine Army - 1) All Primaris, 2) mixed Primaris and Standard, 3) All Standard. The two most recent white dwarf issues feature primaries marines painted as Black Templars in one or more article. In addition, the Primaris marines supplement included with the Dark Imperium Starter box has this image: Note the leftmost model in the center row. Unruly
So, anyone here play Necrons or have friends that do? How do they shake out in the new rules? I've heard that when they were first introduced they were generally OP, then they didn't get updates for a while and fell below the other armies, and then later they got a sort of half-assed update that put them closer to balanced. I've been a fan of the Necrons since I played Dawn of War: Dark Crusade, and with 8E and GW's newer, fairly decent pricing, I'm thinking of buying a few figures for a skirmish force or something. They also seem to be one of the least complicated armies in the GW lineup, in that there's like 7 units that make up every army and then a small handful of heroes or whatever. Their abilities were created specifically to counter OP armies. Someone stacks a bunch of wargear to make ridiculous combos? Necrons turn them all off. Someone uses super heavy armor and nearly impossible to kill? Attach some mecha-bugs and all the armor is gone. But use Necrons against an army that took none of that? Suddenly they don't have much going for them. (this is all 2nd edition version)
Sergeant_Crunch
All I remember is that in 4th it was darned near impossible to win against them with my Guard army...except the time I got a lucky hit with my Demolisher and destroyed the Monolith before over half his army had gated in through the portal. He was pissed and I was in awe that I had pulled off a win. Edited July 20, 2017 by Sergeant_Crunch
Reaperbryan
I haven't seen any fan rankings of viability in competitive play, but the podcasts I listen to tell me that every army has the potential to win, and generalship is really much more a factor than simply "I fielded X therefore I win"

Unruly
It's good to hear that they seem to have given everyone a relatively fair shake this time around. I know from reading up on it in the past that GW has very frequently been less than kind to various armies over the years by doing things like releasing a new edition but not updating army books for everyone, giving certain armies a set of killer new units designed specifically to destroy another army who doesn't get any new stuff, etc. I may build a little skirmish force of Necrons in the future then. A box or two of Warriors, a box of Immortals, and my existing Necron Lord should work as a decent Kill Team force, and then I could think about building up even more from there. Unruly
Well, I just learned that GW killed the Kill Team rules with 8E. And it's less than a year since they released the latest ones. Which sucks, and sort of makes me wish I'd bought the Kill Team box back when it was available...
