That's the only image that I'm aware of.

If this is a new picture of the new marines:

I guess I thought they would change the design slightly. Like smaller leg panels or something. But then again I prefer Infinity over Warhammer.

So a friend of mine, who is big into 40k, is now sort of freaked out by what 8e might bring. I guess they released an updated map that got rid of a bunch of planets and rearranged things or something, and now there's speculation going around that the Blood Angels are getting shafted. As almost his entire collection is Blood Angels, he's a bit miffed that this may happen. I kind of agree with his potential outrage, because even as someone with only a passing knowledge of 40k I know of the Blood Angels and that they've been a major Space Marine faction for almost the entire life of the game. But I wouldn't put it past GW to screw people over like that, because, well, they're GW. They've done it before and they'll do it again.

I have not seen a rumor where Blood Angels are getting shafted. I would be interested to see where he got this from. Also the updated map does not get rid of planets or rearrange things at all. But GW IS going to move the story forward, and the new map is part of that. The galaxy is effectively split in half by a massive warp storm.

What he showed me was an article on Bell of Lost Souls. In it, they point out that the Blood Angel's homeworld is on the bad side of the warp scar, cut off from the rest of the Imperium, and how some of the other Imperium-related worlds on the wrong side belong to Imperial Guard factions that no longer have a presence in the game. Also, it says stuff about how the Blood Angels have been in really bad shape lately in the fiction. I don't play the game or follow the lore, so I can't say much, all I know is that my friend is kind of nervous that they're going to kill his Blood Angels off.

Here's the writeup that he was referencing, which also says that some planets were removed from the map - http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2017/05/40k-blood-angels-doomed.html

Well Baal still exists so I don't see the problem

And even if it did get destroyed, so did Cadia and the Cadians are still around.

As mentioned Blood Angels are one of the big four, so I have a VERY hard time believing any rumors of their removal from the line-up.

Wait what are you talking about? I don't recall them removing any major factions entirely since the squat.

Fantasy. Multiple factions removed in the conversion to AOS.

My complaint with the pricing isn't for the basic units. GW has always priced those decently, with a few exceptions. making them cheaper just makes the bait nicer.

It's the specialist units, like the bloodcrushers and centurions. Once you've been hooked, they pull a pricing switch on you.

@Unruly---tell your friend to go and check out Bolter and Chainsword (it's a 40k spacemarine only forum) and see what the general consensus is there. He'll get a much more accurate feel for what's going on over there.

BoLS is not a reliable source of info (IMO).

Fantasy had the problem of the game pretty much completely changing setting and tone between WFB and AOS - and it's not impossible for those armies to show up again, I suspect. Part of the problem is long lead times between "This is actually a thing, huh..." and "We have new <Bretonnians> <Tomb Kings> <Sisters of Battle> <whatever>!"

In the case of 8th Edition, it's a different situation - the storyline is advancing, but the basic 'realities' (in the grimdark future there is only WAR, etc.) aren't - while Robot Gorillaman is a more pragmatic and less fanatical/speciest warleader than the High Lords of Terra, he's still a human supremacist, and not a very nice guy (except in comparison to the rest of the Primarchs).

So there's no in-setting reason for the BAs or other units to get wiped out, only storyline reasons - and given how popular the Blood Angels are, while there might be a splintering (with some falling to Chaos), or something like that - I doubt GW will make it impossible for there to be Loyalist Blood Angels in 8th edition. And in fact the Warp Storms might make revisiting old IG units that are now stuck on the other side easier for GW - after all, the Cadians can't be everywhere...
(Well, they can be - but now it's possible for them to revisit Krieg and other IG units that have, up to now, mostly been either Oldhammer metals, or ForgeWorld resins).

I find that BoLS does a decent job of getting actual published facts out there in decent order (and they're pretty good about reporting rumors as rumors, not facts) - but my goodness never read the comments...

But yeah - Bolter&Chainsword is probably better in terms of getting a feel for what might be happening, with a lot less hyperbole and scaremongering. BoLS commenters all/mostly seem to have a pretty pessimistic view of things.

They've said that all models will be usable in the new edition. Given that there are specific minis for Blood Angels, it stands to reason that they will be payable. Plus they feature prominently on the cover of Shadow War: Armageddon which would be an odd choice if BA were slated for squatting.

The only reason some Fantasy armies are no longer being made or supported is due to GW not being able to copyright them. Blood Angels, Space Wolves, Dark Angels, and every Chapter of Space Marines (including my Iron Hands) are solidly their material. We even have "Codex Astartes" as their "official" name - sort of like how the larger governing body of the Imperial Guard is known as the Astra Militarum now instead of just Imperial Guard. (Fun fact: it's still proper to say Imperial Guard when referring to the Guard. They are a subset of the Astra Militarum ^_^.)

40k players tend to freak out every time a new edition comes out or a Codex is updated. Well, not all of them. I think the internet exacerbates the problem due to sites like BoLS, Spiky whatever, and the like; eg, cesspits of the hobby. These people lose their minds for little to no reason. Blood Angels going away? Yeah, I'll jump on that bandwagon right after I drink some of this Flavor Aid. Heck, I play Flesh Tearers (a Blood Angels' Successor Chapter) and I have no worries about their future in the backstory. If I don't like what they've done, I'll simply change it.
