Tough break. This edition is actually getting me a bit excited, to be honest. Slowly working on a new Genestealer Cult army... Absolutely no clue, I don't know anything about Warhammer 40K. It does have a date of 1993 on it, though.
Sergeant_Crunch
Just read the faction piece for the Imperial Guard (sorry, I'm not calling them by that other name). I'm somewhat hopeful that my 42nd Cadian Infantry Regiment won't get immediately curb stomped like it used to. Oh and another thing. What is this "orders" business? I haven't played since the days of the Rhino Rush so this is new to me.

I know the IG get them) officers can issue orders at the start of the Shooting phase, letting units double-fire (as shown in the article), or get extra distance on a charge, gain Precision Shot (a special trait), etc. Previously the unit had to pass a Leadership check to follow the orders - it appears that this isn't necessary in 8th edition (orders may be restricted in other ways - maybe an officer has to be within Leadership inches of a unit to issue it commands unless they both have access to a Vox Caster, or something?)
Sergeant_Crunch
That's interesting. When was that added?

Sergeant_Crunch
I played during 3rd and 4th editions. So that narrows it down to 5th or 6th.
Moderator Chaoswolf Posted May 10, 2017 Author Moderator Share Posted May 10, 2017 I think it may have been 5th; I still played a little bit of that edition before I gave up due to the prices. (Note: that's not a dig on GW, or a reason to drag this thread into some very nasty territory. It's just the reason that I stopped playing.)
Mehman
Guard Orders are so tasty. Militarum Tempestus Orders, too. Also, I do think it was 5th when they came about but I could be glaringly wrong. Right then, ladies and gents. I've just been on the Warhammer Community site and I can safely say I'm more excited about this edition than any other. Twin-linked weapons now fire double the shots instead of being a re-roll rule. I don't know what to say. Thank you? They also changed Combi-weapons. At this point, just from seeing the tidbits they're putting up daily, I think I could play a game again. It would have to be much smaller than what I used to play but I've got a 3'x3' mat for a different game so I might as well use it for the Hammer, too. Huzzah !

From my POV, it looks like they're trying to be better than they have in the past. I mean, I still have some gripes, but am willing to give the new leadership a chance.
Lars Porsenna
Yes, combi weapons have been made worth taking again (assuming the points are good). Damon.
Spacefrog
And we get new rules for Twinlinked doubling the shot could mean that chaos twin bolters effectively are storm bolters at long ranges and putting out a whopping 4 shots at 12" Blast weapons now more effective against single targets. Combi weapons are no longer a horrible choice Melta weapons; not as effective as before but it works against everything!
Sergeant_Crunch
Even if they're not as effective, I still wouldn't want my Leman Russ to get hit by one.

Should be interesting to see what kind of carnage a unit of Chaos Terminators are capable of.
Moderator Chaoswolf Posted May 11, 2017 Author Moderator Share Posted May 11, 2017 Yes, indeed. I've got about 30 or so of 'em; I'd love to see them get to wreck face on the tabletop. DEATH TO THE FALSE EMPEROR!!!
