Knight of the Dinner Table
I just noticed that I actually painted 30 of my Bones II miniatures (along with a number of Dungeon Saga and Black Plague miniatures) ... means I can back Bones IV with a clean conscience ... after all, having painted about 60 out of ... 20 ... miniatures is a true heroic goblin feat, isn't it?

Well maybe the wife will let me go a little wild with the next set. Hope they have stuff my daughter likes too so my wife is more willing. I can honestly say that I think I bought the 'right' amount out of Bones 3. What I was most interested in was terrain. So I bought Bonehenge and the Graveyard set. I also picked up a few sets of fantasy miniatures. I am pretty sure all those figures will get painted pretty quickly now that my RPG group has decided to switch back to D&D. buckyball
Looter
So my friend and I were going over all our ill gotten booty from KSIII and we were talking about the dragons and he had said that he originally thought that this should be called the dragon kickstarter but then went back and the previous 2 were very similar in numbers of dragons each so he had changed his mind a bit. So now I am thinking I wonder if they will continue this trend. I know I love dragons and am kicking myself for missing out on several this past KS, but who else likes lots of new Dragons in each kickstarter or should they tone it down? What do you guys think? I hope they bring out a ton of mounted monsters like Kyra and Lavarath from this last one to be honest people in control of these huge and amazingly outlandish monsters is just really cool.

How many dragons does Reaper have that haven't been turned into bones yet? Sounds like an expedition through the catalog is in order!

Sounds like an expedition through the catalog is in order! Currently the brood dragon, pharaoh dragon, Narthalyssk, and several others have not been converted or re-sculpted. The "Bones you'd like to see" wishlist still grows! Personally, I'll be curious to see what partnerships/collaborations Reaper may have, if any. Like the Victoria Miniatures, or DarkSword for the DVD sets. Also, let us not forget what sort of KS progression chart we'll have this time. Bones 1: Ever deepening dungeon. Bones 2: board game map. Bones 3: 8 bit video game. Bones 4: ...Collectible card game? World map adventure? Mountain climb? Planet hopping? Unravelled big ball of yarn with kitties? Will Mr. and Mrs Bones' family grow? Will we have little Bonelings? How will our valiant hero Sir Justin Forscale survive all this? [Fancifully of course.]

Marc
Hey everyone! New forum member, second post :) As I mentioned in my inaugural post here on these forums, I painted my first ever bones mini (first ever mini period, actually) at Reaper's paint and take at PaizoCon a few weeks ago and had a blast! The mini turned out pretty well too, and now I'm addicted and want to jump in to the hobby:) As someone new to painting bones, I plan on waiting for this Kicksrarter to buy a good selection of minis, paints etc. My hope is that Reaper remembers that, even though this will be the fourth bones Kickstarter, there will still be plenty of new folks jumping in :) Specifically, I hope they offer a good set of core paints at a good price for those of us that don't currently have any! I checked out the previous Kickstarter and it looked like the paint sets offered were more like expansion sets than a core set ... Nunae
Hey Marc, one thing to keep in mind: while kickstarter stuff comes at an incredible discount, you also have to wait for it, at least a year, more like two with the last one. That's why I wouldn't try to get my basics there, unless you can hold off on actually starting to paint for that long. As a rather new painter myself I'm really looking forward to this KS as well - but I won't be dumping all my hobby money on it, instead I'll buy some minis to immidiately paint up from time to time.

I checked out the previous Kickstarter and it looked like the paint sets offered were more like expansion sets than a core set ... My strong recommendation would be, rather than waiting would most certainly be over a year (given we don't have a start date, and the time needed for production and fulfillment --- Bones III is fulfilling about two years after it ran) --- you should consider picking up all the Reaper Bones Learn to Paint Kits. This is definitely the most affordable way to get into the hobby I've found, and you built up a solid core set of paints by doing this. Particularly, if you make an order over $35 (I think?) you get free shipping from the web store, really helping with the costs. These kits also provide great instruction, too. I think it's highly unlikely they will offer a core set here, given they generally use the KS to expand their offerings. Welcome to the hobby, I look forward to seeing your painted minis in the Show Off forum!
Marc
Excellent point on the long wait time - I hadn't thought about that! I'll take a look at the Learn to Paint kits!

To add on to @sigmaone suggestion for purchasing from Reaper's online store, they are currently going through their anniversary and have offered free metal miniature(s) depending on the month for every $40 spent.

I think reaper does an excellent job balancing the fantasy, sci-fi, and modern stuff in their KSs. Dragons have always been a quintessential rpg creature, so I think they'll continue to release awesomesauce dragons. That being said, I'd love some sci-fi dragons 17 hours ago, strawhat said: OMG...
