Bones IV pre-launch & news

I'm not exactly grumpy about Bones 4.  I don't really even mind the overlap of announcements; I assume they have their reasons, and purely speculate that if they were to wait until absolutely every order is received and all corrections made, the delay to Bones 4 might compound production and shipping delays.

My minor grumpiness is centered on Bones 3 running so long past the original estimate.  It funded in July 2015 with estimated fulfillment September 2016, so that's a 14 month estimate, missed by 8 months for fulfillment to start.  To the later recipients in US and ROW, it looks like 10 or 11 months past estimate.  So, I'm a little bit skeptical about Bones 4, wondering if I really want to invest in another 2 year fulfillment cycle.  I suppose I will just have to reevaluate when details are released next month.

While I totally let a group of tweens with ADHD use my painted Bones for their games, I would not let a toddler play unsupervised.  A lot of them are too small and are a choking hazard.  Much sturdier than metal for rough handling, though!  ^_^

I would definitely not leave them unsupervised with any small objects as toddlers.

I am not too miffed about bones 3 being later than estimated, we all know KS and delivery times are not on speaking terms.

But I would like to actually receive my bones 3 shipment before the bones 4 launches.

still waiting. And I am off on a fortnights vacation in three weeks time. Which almost guarantees that it will arrive when I am gone, and then get returned to sender.

Do we know yet if it literally launches on Aug.1 or do we only know for sure that it launches in Aug. ?

The announcement is just "August".  I expect that this is deliberate, so that they can have some wiggle room in their planning.  They are probably hoping that Bones 3 will be delivered by then, since it is obviously a sore point with a lot of backers.

That said, each kickstarter has had huge backing despite plenty of nay-sayers insisting that there would be less.  I'm not going to even try and predict how they'll do for Bones 4.

They worked out an EU friendly solution in time for shopping this time, as I understood it. Seems reasonable to assume it'll stay that way next time.

The Problem is, that when Bones 4 fulfills, the Brexit will probably have taken place and then shipping from the UK might not be EU-friendly any longer. So Reaper might want to look for another partner - in Germany or France, for example.

Of course, there is the possibility for trade agreements between the EU and Britain ... but the situation looks quite foggy at the moment.

I'm now curious on how long the campaign will last.

There's always that initial rush (only beneficial if you care in being in the early shipping waves), then several weeks with little activity (though plenty of time for suggestions like the Frogemoth to become reality), and the super exciting final stretch filled with last minute surprises (often very big ones)

It has been understood that making a campaign last longer isn't necessarily a good thing.

I've arranged with my post office some extra time to pick stuff up when I'm working out of town; It's apparently common enough that they have a standard procedure. I'm not sure if UPS or whoever has the equivalent, but it might be worth contacting them.

UPS does...You just log in and reschedule delivery...You can change it to pick up as well.

How does the bones material compare in terms of durability to "plastic toy soldiers"? Will bones be suitable as (a bit older) kids toys, or will they break too easiliy when harmed in inappropiate manner? :)

I let my now 3 and 4 year olds play with them, and have done so since they were 2 and three (the older one has been playing with them since she was 2), although I did initially restrict them to larger figures. Only things that have broken have been things that I've glued together using cheap superglue (so big things, like dragons and griffons, but they've broken even without the kids involvement.
