Glazing replaces dry brushing but what to do with rock?

Also white, black, pink...

There's quartz... (It's not unusual to see quartz veins in the granite when hiking in the mountains. )

Green...

Blue...

(Brandyvine blue gneiss is one)

Name a color and I can name a rock which has that as a dominant color seen, lol. Seriously, look up eclogites - they're the Christmas rock (green and red). The rock I am studying is various shades of red, gray, and purple.

And dry/damp brushing are totally usable. I like using the technique on gritty or dusted stuff, like rocks, terrain, and sometimes white tips on dwarf beards. It isn't the only method I use to highlight rocks though. Standard shading can still apply.

What is the rock to be painted made of?

.

Fer instance, is a piece of foam carved to look like a rock formation the item being painted?

I discovered a system for doing grey based stone that I am partial to....

a link to my DDS2 Thread

That looks like it's easier to achieve with an airbrush. It also looks like a TON of work

the base coating was done with an airbrush, the rest was all dry brushing....

And as for being a lot of work....

I feel it's worth it....

I have most of KS 1 to paint as well as KS 3(I missed out of KS2). I also have maybe 3/4 of the zombicide base game to paint.  If I didn't have a hoarde of a backlog maybe I'd take the time but I really need to get paint on some minis.
