Getting to Know Each Other = July Edition

July 14: Weaponized Roombas, drones, combat AI,and programs to hack them. Despite plenty of warnings from Terminator and the Matrix we seem dead set on building something that will likely turn on us.

July 15: 1 flying saucer and several grey aliens inbound, and the contents of the Gorkamorka box in storage. Never really into sci fi minis, although the release of 40k 8th edition is something I'm pondering. Of course if I go for it I'm going to need a source of 28mm Elvis heads so that I can convert the primaris marines into the image of the Emprah when he was known as the King.

July 16th: Working the brunch this weekend as I do every weekend, so no energy for painting, ray guns or otherwise.

Weekend Questions: July 14/15/16...

Forget unlikely Sci-Fi things like phasers, what do you think near-future weapons advances will consist of?

Sci-Fi minis and models, do you have any? How many? (answers may use goblin, elven, wizardish, or Arabic maths; we're not picky.)

Bonus Quest: (to complete by the 16th) paint something that looks like it has a Zap-beam, Death-ray, Phazer-bank, etc.

Double bonus: make it look like it glows somehow.

Q14---most of what I would have said has already been mentioned by others; power armor.

Q15---Yes, I do. Lots. No, no, you're thinking too small; I mean LOTS.

Q16---I did some recently-ish, I can find links if you'd like. Probably won't get one done this weekend, I have a fair number of fantasy figures that are close to done that I'd like to finish up.

Future weapons: more fingerprint locks on already existing weapons.

I have some sci fi minis. I focus on fantasy more. Maybe a dozen scifi.

Phaser or whatnot? Ehh.... I just did that alien and he had a blaster. No plans to do more in immediate future.

For weapons, I too would guess something with lasers, they are used for everything else.

As for minis, does War machine count? Sort of a cross between sci-fi and fantasy. Have a bunch of those but nothing else really.

1.  I see a new generation of semi-autonomous robots on the battlefield as the next major military advance.

2.  Nope.

1) Drones, all the drones.

2) The vast majority of my "collection" is Sci-Fi.  I've always preferred Sci-Fi to Fantasy.  I have many 20's of Sci-Fi miniatures and models.  I had an accurate count a few months ago, but recent purchases that have made it larger by 20 or so more models.

3) I was actually planning to make some time for mass painting this weekend.

To further expound on point 2, it was CAV (just before they originally announced CAV2) that drew into Reaper's clutches...not the fantasy figures.  Though over the years I have bought some of the fantasy items almost all of them are nowhere close to being painted.

1. WEAPONS ADVANCES
The next big thing will, I think, be nonlethal weapons, stuff like tasers, but even less likely to kill heart patients and people on crack. And I expect they will get abused.

2. SCI FI MODELS AND MINIS: Whoo boy. Had quite a few models over the years; I retain few, since my interstate move. Still got a helluva lot of Micro Machines, though. And a fair number of Star Wars prepaints and a few of the metals. I have SEVERAL different metal sets from Star Trek, some dating back to the seventies. A few of the Star Frontiers minis. And a handful of Warhammer 40k, although I am more prone to do silly things with them than take them seriously.

3. PAINT SOMETHING. Let me get back to you on that; today I finished two minis that I started six or seven years ago, and I'm still basking in the glow.

1/ Sonic stunners. I saw a video.

2/ Hundreds 20.

3/ You're not the boss of me. (x2)

A potted plant?

In order to get a bit of greenery, I actually moved into a flat halfway up a mountain in the New Territories.  It's dashed inconvenient from a transport point of view but it's great when I get home from work and feel like I've left Hong Kong.

What I hope is that we will see greater development of weapons which can safely "stun" people.

As to sci-fi minis - yeah, I got 20 <boxes> of those. ::D:

I haven't taken inventory in a while but if I recall correctly, I have:

  • Judge Dredd
  • Deadzone
  • Dreadball
  • Various stuff from Bones
  • Battletech
  • Galaxy Defenders (which is even fully painted!)
  • Warhammer 40k (I have 80% of a squad from a starter paint set)

1. drones, robots, and smart weapons

2. Many 20. Full BFG imperial, Chaos, Space Marines, Tau, and Orc fleets. Chaos marine 40K army, plus tons of other minis.

3. Needs more work, but here you go!

14)...near-future weapons...

I think/fear that I will live to see remote armies. There could once again be an Army of Northern Virginia and an Army of the Potomac but they would fight on the same side, against a common enemy; the only fighting they'd do against each other would be their twice daily commute to their control centers around the D.C.  So, yes, drones...robots.

  15)...Sci-Fi minis/models...

I have a few Space Marines. Some from random bit box impulse buys and a bunch from a split up boxed set that included a dreadnaught, some terminators[?], and 10-12 regular guys. Dr.B reminded me I have a bunch of micro machines space craft. I also have an assortment of plastics and Chronoscope minis that are earmarked for Rockets&Rayguns.  (Set of rules needed) Diecast spaceships: small fleet of those. Less than a dozen CAV robots, and even less Battletech.

  16th) paint...a zap-ray...

Move it along; nothing to see here**

**..failure at my own quest I am, and with more warning than anybody..

I painted a mini for a BattleMech that has a laser weapon.  Does that count?  (Doesn't glow though.)  It was already assembled and primed but no paint was applied until Friday evening.
