Reaper Chess

I'm interested in doing a chess set using Reaper Miniatures.

Recommendations please.

There are many possibilities.

Which races do you like?

You could pit Undead against Crusaders or Goblins against Elves for example.

There are mounted minis that can be used as horses. Clerics/ wizards could be the bishops.

Etc etc..

For the time being, let's settle for Human vs Human.

(Good vs Evil or both sides neutral in alignment.)

Question: Any recommendations for Rooks?

Me too.  I guess it randomly depends on what people have rustled up in the past, that and my ability to dig through old threads.

I'm pretty sure there's been more discussion than I can scare up, but not necessarily in an easy to find, simple format.

I would look at the golems.  Something like the Bones 3 Graveyard Golem might go rather nicely with the bad guys, while the Bones 3 Iron Golem might work well with the good guys.

My other thought would be the elementals.

I mentioned this guy earlier.

Since it is a Bones mini you could easily cut the figure off the castle base, and replace it with any mini you'd like.

It will have a castle stoneworks base then.

For a Rook use an Archer figure that matches the faction chosen for the rest of the pieces. Build a platform (or use the one Xherman suggested) for the Archer to stand in. The more it looks like a Belfrey (siege tower) the better.

Not a bad idea.

The biggest problem with an Elven Chess set is trying to limit selection.  I started trying to do a Frostgrave Warband with Elves... and just locating all of the different ones and then sifting them for different types was mind boggling.  But, in another year, when I get ready to do the chess set for my brother, I have all of the figures in a pre-sorted order that will make them easier to find for what I want.  I just haven't made the choices yet...

Guns, ninjas, hobbits, dogs, monkeys, pumpkins, and mancatchers.

Sure, you *say* you could otherwise do some conversion. But good luck finding a mancatcher *and* a monkey.

Stuff's in metal and cast in the USA. Magnets are from China, but they have multiple suppliers.

Finally finished an NPC mage that plays a recurring role in my campaign. Now that she’s done the party will probably never return to her castle .. fun to paint

Further efforts to produce a dozen dragons this year brought me out to the desert sands where even dragons new to worry about being spotted if they want a decent meal.  To this end desert dragons are campflaged to look like the ground from above and the sky from below.

Looks interesting for the terrain, if not the miniatures. Two armies package includes two 20"x20" fortresses for less than $100.

There are a couple of things that give me pause, though. First time creator, and claims to be in Chicago but English is clearly not his first language. May not mean anything but makes me wonder.

"After over three years in the making, we are proud to present you the Eternal Eight - a WORLD'S FIRST 3D mini war game with innovative real 3D RELIEF.
The goal of the game is to  capture the enemy’s King. The advantages of Eternal Eight are the 3D castles, fortresses and villages with a myriad of traps, labyrinths and  secret passages. All of the army bases (castles, villages, fortresses) are easy to assemble and move around.
The game can be easily incorporated into your existing game table setup or provide a great addon to some of your existing mini war games."

Here is my take on the Dance of Death sculpt from the Bones 4 Kickstarter.

I really enjoyed this one,  finishing it up this last winter. I saw someone mention somewhere online that they were bummed that the heads didn't exactly line up, but I found it reminiscent of dogs when they are snarling while looking sidelong at each other.

Apologies for the scratches and discolorations on the background. I've been meaning to pick up some black cloth to improve that.

      Thanks for taking a look!
