Club
I'm doing a warhammer demons army. I'm looking at the flesh hounds, and the price is absurd. The Glyph hounds, on the other hands, have a much better price point. I'm considering getting some, and converting them to flesh hounds. Does anyone know how to, with minimal modeling skills and preferably low investment in time, make a spinosaurus-style sail, or a bearded lizard style frill?
Pingo
Bamboo skewers and cotton fabric?
Chris Palmer
If I was doing it, I'd get some stiff wire (straightened paperclips, or brass wire from the hobbyshop) to be the spines. I'd then drill some small holes along the backbone of the animal, in which I'd insert the stiff wire spines, cut in length to match the shilouette of the sail I was trying to make. I'd then sandwich the wire spines between two sheets of kitchen style tinfoil and glue the foil into place. When dry, I would carefully cut the sail shape I desired.
Leader of the Rats
Does it have to be a Games Workshop model? I remember they used to allow models from other companies if they were modded, not sure anymore. If it's ok, get some bones hell hounds they are a joy to paint and would fit your modding needs with Chris Palmers advise.
Club
doesn't need to be as I'm unlikely to join tournies; but there are a couple purists at the FLGS and they'd get whiny. Also I want to support the FLGS, and he doesn't carry reaper anymore.

The authentic demon hounds OP is wanting to emulate fit a cavalry base. (Was 50x24mm) The newer Gryph hounds (a very nice, very heraldic looking beast) are on 30mm[?] round bases. @Club if it was me I would just paint the gryphhounds what ever the canon colors are for demon things (red with lots of black?) and call it good. @Pingo I think our OP is aiming to field things like this: Daemon Hounds ...but start with these: Gryph Hounds ...a noble beast if there ever was one.
TGP
~ ~ Yipes. Those "Khorne Dogs" are $50 bucks for five plastic models. $10 each. @Club are the two kinds of hounds on the same size round base in the current incarnation of the game?
Club
the khorne dogs are on 50mms, the glyph hounds on 40mm bases. The glyph hounds are smaller, but I have spare 2 inch bases. The new khorne hounds were produced in the last few years, at the height of GWs head-up-the-arse phase. Their prices for everything produced since 2009 or so are silly. Of course, the previous version, produced around 2002 or so, weren't much cheaper and ugly to boot, but at least they had the excuse of being metal. It's GW. Their prices for basic troops and starter sets generally aren't bad. The prices for everything else is ludicrous. Classic bait and switch. I had most of the army already, some of it since the '90s, so it isn't a backbreaker for me, with a couple exceptions. The flesh hounds are one.
TGP
I spotted some metal (wolf looking) hell hounds in Reaper's catalog which are priced at 2 dogs for $10. Does the army you are doing have both Chaos Hounds and these Flesh Hounds or is that two completely different Chaos armies? (And totally different creatures...) Egg of Coot
I'd just use thin copper sheet. Cut it to size and bend into rough shape, then do all of your Green Stuff work on top of it. The Egg
