Reaper DH Legends 03762 Shaern, Female Antipaladin

Recommended Posts

With my other minis in various states ranging from "kinda diggin this" to "are you kidding me?!! (not in a good way) it seemed to me like a good time to start another. Actually. my other minis are all about to be wrapped up and the base that was to be for Kristiana is now going to this lovely lady. I suppose you could say the base is driving this project. That's funny because I don't have a pic of it to share on this posting. Back to Shaern here, this is a great sculpt, very crisp details. My collection thus far is primarily barbarians, and she will fit in nicely. She's also good for me now as I want to practice on my skin and nmm.

This where I start tonight. I want to keep her eyes pretty much in the shade but still need to blend the tones more. The "stringy" bits of her attire perplexed me for a while as to coloring. Is it chain metal? Is it leather? If leather, dark or light? I decided to go this direction and sleep on it. I think it will work. Enough texture to create interest, subtle enough to show off the nmm (gulp, guess I better do it right).  Really looking forward to that blade!

  -Thanks for lookin.

Thanks Xherm!

Makin some progress here. Gonna kick all my WIPs into shape over the next week, as I have some time off. I'm happy with direction this little gal is heading.

I have a question for the anyone out there well versed in the Adventure Apparel department; What is the "part" hanging in front of her skirt? As it comes down from the waist it has a scale-mail-like texture that sort of fades into a branch-like structure/design. It has quite a bit of dimension to it, so I don't think it's just a design. I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around painting it without having an idea of what it is.

I also need to find another adjustment on my camera. For some reason my photos all seem so "digitized". Even when I only crop and resize (which I try to stick to). Auto adjust doesn't seem to make a difference as to the digey look of them.

Whatever, I'll figure that out unless there's a photo savvy wizard with a spell for me out there.

Back to Shaern here. Got the hair done, the skirt done less the "thingey". Psychin' myself up to the task of nmm. Make it or break it on this fig. Happy so far. Workin on the base as well, bad pic though, sorry.

Test fit, I figured I'd snap a photo and share. I decided that I need to "mostly"complete the base before adding the water. I want to hit the base with a matte clear and don't want any of hitting the gloss of the water. I wish I had painted the top of the water area a bit lighter before "rooting" it. Just gonna have to work around them.

Thanks guys!

Well, today I have learned that if using plexiglass to hold back your Envirotex Lite (2 part epoxy "water"). it's a good idea to remember to somehow lube it for release (that sounds, well you know, wrong). While taking off the front "dam" it wanted to take the water  with it. It got some too, bummer. I also learned that even if the item you placed "underwater" is within the plane of your boarder, it may not be back far enough. DOH!!!

I am in the process of trying to salvage the wreckage. Using AK interactive Gauzy Agent across the front face. At the bottom is a void that will likely require something different (too deep). While sanding/buffing before adding "the agent" I hit the edge of the swords cross-guard (hilt), ohh, shiny! I dabbed a bit o color on it, we'll see.

If I have to make a new base, so be it. I just can't wait till my knowledge of the practices in play has caught up to my vision. I mean the base developed "organically", it was created on the fly without much planning. In my 2d art, that's where the best stuff comes from. If I do a practice run before a project, the practice piece often times outshines the final piece.

Coffee made, time to trudge along, I still have painting to try and focus on.

PS, any advice on the water issue? I mean, people have complained about texture left behind from "plastic card" (sheet styrene), that's what prompted me to go with the plexi. A little mold release maybe? I have some in spray form, I'd think it would need to be decanted and brushed on or else it would affect the resin sticking to the base. I've read that some use Vasoline (petroleum jelly), I'd be afraid of using it though due to "ridges" caused by the thickness.  I dunno? A bit of help here?

I think I got this, gonna "cap" the wood base with sheet styrene. The water is poured so I can sand it flush with the plastic. The additional depth will keep me off the sword. Big bonus is that I wont need to remove the face. Big drawback is that I had to glue  the upper "dam" to the top of the previously poured water. I tried to be frugal with the clue and still get a seal.

Fingers crossed! Nothing to do now but pray and wait...and paint the girl, or that other base, or then there's the other base.

Good news! The base has been saved! I still need to paint it up- it looks so different in white! I started painting the girls armor and I'm pretty happy for the little bit of time I actually put in before having to stop. I'll get back on it after breakfast, n errands, an stuff, smh, soon I hope. Thanks for checkin it out. Lemme know what you think.

Not a whole lot new with the girl. A bit more armor painted- no pics this time. I did pull off an acceptable recovery on the base though. I plan on adding some "I don't know yet" to the base once the fig is attached. That's it for now. Dinner and some errands next, hopefully I'll be slingin' some paint later.

I haven't gotten a lot of brush time lately but I have gotten some. I've been working on my nmm as I just can't get into tmm, at least for fantasy. The last time that I tried to get into minis, it was my lack of ability with nmm that drove to put down the brush. I feel like I am slowly overcoming that obstacle.  Still having a bit of trouble with large axe heads, gotta get that down, I have some barbarians lined up.

Thanks for lookin, c& c more than welcome, in fact, invited.

It's been a while since I've checked in. Other projects have had a large demand on my time. I am gettin' in a little brush time here and there. Getting real close to done on this gal. Still need to paint the hand holding the shield. I may add to the "tree" a bit. I think the shield needs a darker shade added as well, we'll see.
