So I finally got this book and began prepping the miniature that came with it. I'm really impressed with the design of the new Primaris. Very well done.

To start I felt like the over all miniature needed some more weight to it. I mixed up some sculpty and green stuff and filled in his base and pressed the remaining into his back. It still fits together cause there is a lot of hollow space in him. The only reason I knew it was light was they had a few on display at the Games Workshop store so I got to pick one up.

Got this guy primed and base coated last night. Instead of me trying to remember the paints I used I just took a photo with them! HA!

The next stage is a was in a deeper red with a focus on the recesses to fill in gaps. I was going to go full display piece on this but decided to make it a quicker paint job and just paint what I want until it's finished. I tend  to over obsess  about the details which prolongs the project.

My objective on this guy is to give him a more tactical red look.  His colors are possibly going to be grey and red. Like a more tactical blood angel. I'm still thinking it through.

Are these the new bigger,  reengineered  space marines I've heard about?

Yes they are. I didn't really like the look of the originals myself.  Below in the spoiler is a comparison I found online.

Sooooo like I said before I want to go with a tactical Blood angel look. That is were Grey comes in. Selecting the right panels over others, painting straight lines and keep the next phase in mind - shading...

I went with "silver" instead gold for the trim and wings. I was going to go with Gold As I really like it but it seems like it may distract.

What do you think? I'm thinking of painting the muzzle of the mask grey too. (?)

I did a Red Ink glaze over him last night then a Brown Wash. Now I'm going through with Orange on the high points and will be hitting it with Big Top Red tonight for the some of the lows.

WATCH OUT Izzie is spying on you!

Got more work done on the Primaris this weekend. Washed him down and highlighting up. I got the red in a good place but I I'll probably work on it more. Just started on the greys.

Big Top Red mixed with German Grey (4:1) then diluted to get the dark spots. I used Oranges and Lighter reds to get highlights. As well as Leather white glazed with RACH Red to get brighter reds. I avoided using a Clear Red.

Need to hit the silvers at the end as they are all getting pretty washed out in the redding process.

Got some more work done over the weekend and Monday:

Silver shading on the shoulders

Gun  highlights

More work on the reds...

Grey shading although I'm not happy with the transition so I'll be working on that too.

Next I need to finish the metallic shading, then jewel the rifle scope and work on the pouches on his back. Need to work on the parchment as well as the base and dirty up the first a bit.

I'm also thinking of trying out scuffed up armor... AHHH!

Looks great.  Especially the red highlights.

Watching this thread more closely now that an actually local FLGS has opened up here where they mostly play 40K and MTG.

THANKS! Then you're going to like this new update! ::D:

  1. BASE: Used a Vallejo Brown on the base then washed it with Brown Wash
  2. BASE: Vallejo German Grey on the "rock" pieces then washed in Black Wash. After that I dry brushed all the "rocks" with Misty Grey
  3. BASE: Next, I used Terran Khaki to dry brush the base and then used it to stipple on the legs and base. In combination with the darker Greys and browns it turned out rather well.
  4. FIGURE: Right leg, Left shoulder thruster: I tried something new by using white to armor-line then stipple random "dotting" for armour wear and tear. You can see it on the second photo. Please let me know if it looks alright.

I experimented with new filters on my camera, white balance filters. One is for florescence and one is for bulbs. I'll get this lighting and photography thing right eventually.

Next to be done is touch ups and adding glow tot he eyes. I'm thinking about adding a heat glow to the gun barrel as well. I saw a picture on FB yesterday of it and thought it looked amazing. Like the gun was just fired off repeatedly.

I need to working on the shading on the backpack as well. And finally, I'm thinking about keeping the base color that brown shade instead of my usual black.

I knew it... sooner or later I'd end up painting a Space Marine. One of my friends gave me a spare Marine in MkIII armour, so I decided on the Death Guard as I've always liked their colour scheme. It's fun to paint pristine white armour and then slap so much brown ink on it that it would have been easier to just drop it in a pot of coffee.

Because I have finaly off a couple of days,  I`ll take the chance to upload one wip project more. But that`s enough for the moment.

This will gonna be a diorama in the end and I started it as group project at my german home forum the Bemalforum. Sometimes we just consider a topic and the members of the forum try to keep to this topic with their projects. I started this as group project with the topic "Make love not war". I didn`t get it finished in time, but I don`t mind and nevertheless finish it as I have planned it.

      Concept:
As said the topic is "Make love not war" and so this was a good opportunity for creating a battle scene with antagonists such as "Love" vs. "Hate", "Good" vs. "Evil" and so on. In the case here the Space Marine represents love and the good one. Haha. Alyx is representing hate and the bad one. This whole project has a meaning and a message and it is: "Hate is little fearful child and love is a huge, self contended Space Marine able to protect you."

I drilled a hole into the gun of the Space Marine and later he will shoot with flowers LOL. I will also add anything peaceful into his empty hand (I still consider what exactly, suggestions for the empty hand are welcome). The side of the base where the Space Marine is standing on will be very colourful with green gras, plants and most of all with a lot of colourful flowers. The side of the base where Alyx is standing on will be monochromatic black/white as herfself is also only painted monochromatic black/white. The only colour which will be added later to Alyx and her side of the base will be bloodred. Her fist will be covered with blood later and it will drop on the base too.

      Base:
What I wish to create here are 2 different spheres. One colourful and bright, full of hope and love (Space Marine`s side), the other one (Alyx`s side) liveless dark and just dried  and dead plants and simply everything will be painted only in black/white apart from the blood at Alyx`s fist and on the base. Maybe I will put the Teddy (she is originally holding in her hand) on her side of her base too and paint it still colourful as a symbol of her lost childhood. The concept is finished and determined. I`m only open for suggestions in details which support the basic idea.

I had help by Mortimer and Ildfus Mahler (both members of the Bemalforum). Mortimer is my muse and he had the idea to add a Hasslefree child to the scene and Ildfus helps me to plan and execute my ideas for the base. So there are already other painters involved here for supporting this project and I will follow the advice by Ildfus Mahler mainly. So: Of course ideas are welcomed, but please be not upset if I let myself mainly guided by Ildfus, because I "engaged" him as my teacher for all concerning the base at this project. Thanks to Ildfus Mahler and Mortimer at this opportunity (for the case if they read it here).

      Technique:
Oh well, this is really a hard task. I used this Space Marine for to practise maximum contrast which means I cover a range up from deep black to pure white.
This is inspired by the outstanding and excellent work of the amazing painter Glaze O also known as Glaze Over.

This means: Here are supposed multiple light sources (not only one from above like it is the case in zenithal highlighting) for determining the highlights/reflections. It is all painted in non metallic metal black, which was really a stupid idea Any other colour wouldn´t make this stress I have right now with all this greys, black and white aaaargh. The multiple light sources make the nmm looking intresting no matter from what angle you look at it and so this is advanced nmm painting.

I mixed in some dark blue into the black for increasing the metallic look. Pictures are more blue than in real, I have to change the white balance settings for the next wip photos.

In basic it is wetblending in the beginning, followed by layering (70%-80%) and partially I used two brush technique (30%-40%). Glaze Over has written on his blog that he only uses two brush technique for to create this wonderful shiny nmm effect, but I`m not very common with this technique and so I just used it partially until now.

Nothing is really finished here and I`m still working on almost all blendings for to get them smoother and for to get the contrast higher. I guess I have painted over 50 hours until now (mainly tedious layering without any end) at the Space Marine and this sucks a bit haha. This is a challenge for me and the only miniature at the moment where I really try to improve my skills as a painter. All other paintjobs at the moment are just on my recent level (not very challenging), but this one here is meant as challenge for me.

As always: All kind of feedback is appreciated.

Sorry this last image is too dark at the lower part, but the wooden base is to see. Both will be put on the same base which is a wooden socket.

      Title: Usidore the Blue
The second figure done in honor of Hello From The Magic Tavern. This is Usidore the Blue. I was very pleased how he turned out. I got the red face of a wizard that drinks a lot of mead. Ha! As well as his staff that I sculpted in the rock based on the lore of the type of stone he has in it. Finally the bird is paint to be a sparrow - his favorite type of bird. The base is also sculpted.

      Half Orc Merchant
Painted by: Arc 724 Sculpted by: Bobby Jackson __________________________________________________
      Title: The Merchant of Backwater
This piece was one of particular interest for me. I remember the first time I saw it I just had to paint it. It seemed so odd but had so much personality.

The very last picture: The last picture is of the bottom the base. I used this wood chip from a woodcrafters store. I'm fairly certain my grandfather - who lived in Tulsa OK until his death - went to this store all the time. He was Sales me by Trade and a craftsmen by... other trade. I thought it fitting to use this chip on the Half Orc Merchant.

Thank you all for the support. I have procrastinated photographing this for various reasons but he is finally done. Hope you enjoy.

This is the piece I did for @Leopardpixie. This was a labor of love as I did the water effect in that magnitude for the first time.

      Hope you enjoy it.

      C&C welcome.
