Arathanel, Elf Ranger - Bones (Photo Heavy)

I like the color scheme, and at least to me, the skin is a good tone for a Drow. I love it when people give some background to their minis, it's always funnier, more interesting. So good detail with the scarf ^^ Great job!

I like it. I like the purple on his quiver too. It stands out as unique. As if it has a story all it's own.

The copper color needs a bit of a bump up in my opinion. Maybe wash it down then use the same color to hit the mids and a brief peak of white to hit the highlights.

Over all I really like it. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks all! I did like his Drowiness (haha). I don't know, for some reason he wasn't as fun for me to paint as the others so I rushed through. I did consider letting him take a dip in Simple Green but decided he was fine for gaming and he was my practice for Drow skin so he served his purpose.

Like him or not, I think you did a very good job on him. I especially like the bit of backstory you created with the scarf.:winkthumbs:

Just saw this - am planning on my Arathanel being a drow also (the whole party is going to be a bunch of evil's as Navatharr is a Gold in my DDS2) and didn't realize you had gone this route as well :)  I had even envisioned his bow done in bone shards like you did.. lol

He looks awesome!

Great minds, huh? Haha! Yes, I pictured the bow as bone and antler. It didn't really seem to be wooden to me so I think the bone colors work. Can't wait to see what you do with your adventurers!

This finally gave me something to use my larger Games Workshop skulls on. I may try to give his hair another highlight of something brighter, as it looks pretty dull at the moment. A fun evil mage that I hope to use as a boss battle one day.

Lots of fun to paint. Nothing to glue. Fun, fun, fun!
I love painting dark elves. I tried a little more modern skin tone this time. The previous ones I painted I gave them more of an old school look with some light purple to their skin.

Presenting Theron, a captain in the Hunters Guild team in the game of Guild Ball by Steamforged Games, and that's about all I know about this one.

Quite pleased with this one, had fun painting all the stitching and other doodads.

I'm painting this up for the BBEG this weekend. Last night I tried the layering technique for black by using multiple thin layers of complementary colors. Someone posted the artist and demo on the Reaper fan page a couple of weeks back when someone asked about painting black. If anyone knows the artist or link, please let me know since I can't find it. I highly recommend it. While these pics don't show the various tones of colors, it looks like rich black with some depth vs going flat like some black paints do. I love the effect. However, I will say it doesn't work as well on something more curvy. I was also trying it on another mini for her top and she'd very curvaceous. It looked a little weird so I just repainted it.

So that being said, I'd love some thoughts on what to do about the collar piece and gloves he has. Should I do the same black treatment or go with a different color? I think I'm going to do his pants in a gray so the focus is more on his armor. Thanks!
