Reaper Bones 4: Enthusiasm and Commentary Thread

Recommended Posts

Love #16 from the core set, the dragonman. With 2 sets of 4 different arms, that is potentially 16 different minis from one sculpt WITHOUT conversion. The only way it could be better,IMO, is if it had additional head options. I hope to see more Bones character models of this sort going forward.

The simplest conversion for the model I can see is skip the wings, fill the mounting holes, BAM lizardman/lizard king. Then you have a nice set of wings to convert another mini.

Finally did my thorough inventory this morning/afternoon. Gotta say I'm pretty lucky as far as goods vs bads, compared to a few posts I've seen on here. I'll be sending a email out for the following:

Fan Favorite:
Chaos Toad Brawler left arm (claw?) I'm not sure if the left arm claw is different then the right as I got 2 rights & the claws fit both arms.
Maggotcrown Ogre Juggernaut right leg
female djinni right arm

Lost Valley:
Stone giant guard arm?? Mine doesn't have a tab on the end of the arm but there is a hole in the hand so maybe it broke off?

+ I got a Paint Set A for free. I can't complain about that.

Few great pieces: Mamluk came out perfect! No broken pieces, no bad tusks!! Babba Yagga's Hut stand up straight (mostly on the claws but I'm not complaining there). Also dry fitting Dance of Death, the 2 dragons are facing each other.

There were a few things in this KS that were a disappointment  but overall other then the delay in the shipping out I'm very, very happy with this KS. Looking forward to doing it all over again when Bones 5 goes live. Also looking forward to retail on the few things I didn't go after.

Some of you might remember my Mumlak have a tusk facing downwards which, I must admit, bothered me a lot more than it should have.

The tusk was glued in pretty tightly and as I tried pulling the tusk out I feared all I was doing was stretching the plastic.

So I figured screw it, and I twisted the tusk until it was pointing in the the right direction... and it stayed there::o:.

So sometimes frustration and force Does work!

Anyway, I’ll be putting in some two part epoxy glue on the join, just to make sure it doesn’t twist back, but I’m pretty happy with it.

It sounds like it was not glued in wrong, but rather bent after moulding or during transport, and what you did was to bend it back into it's original shape, since it stayed that way. Is this plausible from your perspective?

LOVING Bones Black!

Paints easily, you can SEE the detail, not nearly as bendy.

BUT I really think it needs to go out unassembled.

I know that Reaper is hoping to compete with the WizKids lines, with pre-assembled models, but I will take unassembled over badly assembled or broken.

If the arms hadn't been glued onto the Lost Valley giants then I don't think they would have snapped off in shipping, as is, almost all of the stone giants had broken arms or weapons, and Mammoth Guy had a weapon that was broken in two places. I am amazed his tusks didn't get broken.

Really enjoying all the Bones 4 I received. Already finished inventorying them and now going through assembly of them. Found a few miscast, and my portal had two of the same dog statue. No biggie will take time to try and cut it to fit (I hope).

I have a question for everyone that got the Lord of the Jungle. Looks like he was supposed to be mounted in something with the long strip under the throne, or is that just to tilt him forward?

Everytime I open the Bones 4 boxes it's like Christmas.

The box art shows a circular base with knobbed edges. Another  mid production change or factory error, I guess. Have not seen anything here or on Facebook about it, though.

Here is a question I have. On the Stygian Barge, the canopy supports have a filled section between the primary pole and the angled support. Is this a casting error, or does that need to be there? Seems like it could be removed with sprue cutters and some careful knife work.

Inventory, inspection, and assembly complete. Around 750 "minis", 774 bases, total of only 3 minis damaged (repairable), 1mini miscast that I will be requesting a replacement for, and a mere 2 month delay on projected fulfillment. Pretty good job overall, quite happy.

I was just looking at mine.  I see what you mean about it. I already glued mine, now how to cut it without disassembly. I do think it will look better without them since you mentioned it.

My Fantasy Scenics set was missing from my initial shipment, so I got a replacement from Reaper. The Orrerry is in pretty good shape, only real warping is on the base itself, from what I can tell. It's rather large, and going to be... interesting to paint, but I'm almost glad it didn't get packed with everything else.

      Andowyn Thrushmoor!
It's been awhile since I've painted a plain ol' character miniature. I spent the better part of today working on her and I’m overall pleased with how she came out. I really want to double my skill level by the time Bones V is delivered and I’m proud of my progress! Slowly but surely figuring out how to do faces, this one looks pretty okay, though her right eye is funky.

Since this is my first form post, the picture is her next to my first miniature! It's about four years old and I keep it around the rest of my collection in a place of honor

If anybody here loves cavern terrain and missed DF's first cavern KS KS2, this spring/summer around June DF will have KS6. The theme of KS6 will be Return to the Caverns and should be great fun for those who took part in KS2 or those who are new to DF.

DF had this to say and showed the below teaser pics

We're doing for Caverns what Dungeon of Doom did for Dungeons. A whole new batch of fun pieces to enhance your existing collection, but also completely stand-alone.

      Some of the key features:
New Core Shapes (diagonal wall, convex curves, 1" pieces, etc)
      Passages
Elevation (with stuff that's impossible on graph paper...)
Negative Space pieces (and new Terrain Trays)
      Flashy Pieces (Magnets & LEDs)
      Large pieces (4x4 and larger)

This looks like a very interesting board game with lots of new, fresh ideas and cool artwork (and nice minis - there is even a pledge level for just the minis: around 15 of them for $20 plus shipping):

      About this project

There is always more to unlock and explore in the world of Gloomhaven.

If you missed the first Gloomhaven Kickstarter (and retail sold out quickly) here is your chance. I backed that game the first time around and could not be happier with the results. Warning ... that box is heavy ...
