AD&D 2 says that phoenixes have a 40-foot wingspan. Pathfinder, with the d20 size rules, has phoenixes at the same size as rocs (20' square space, with a larger wingspan). D&D 3 has them at Large, at a 10' square. (In MM2.) D&D 5 does not have a stat block for a phoenix but creates one out of a roc as an example of making your own monsters.

 

Found the example from D&D5; it also suggests you could build one out of a giant eagle.

 

In terms of the myth, there was also no consensus... according to Wikipedia, "Herodotus, Pliny, Solinus, and Philostratus describe the phoenix as similar in size to an eagle, but Lactantius and Ezekiel the Dramatist both claim that the phoenix was larger, with Lactantius declaring that it was even larger than an ostrich."

 

Sounds like a phoenix is however big you want it to be! But the colossal phoenix will definitely have some uses. I got to harass some heroes with an evil variant just the other day! (And I had no good miniature for it, which made me very sad.)

I'm kinda feeling that way with the dark elves. They are cool (reminds me I need to bug Izzy at ReaperCon & see if she'll have those to view) but with Bones hit & miss on small figures for me, I'm just waiting for them to hopefully show up in metal form at a future date

Much like everyone else, it sounds, I'm pretty jazzed by the new collection that's been unlocked.  I mean, yes, we've got a phase cat in translucent plastic, we've got alien fungi, we've got dark elves... but we've also got a beetle-riding gnome!  Will no one think of the gnome!

 

Also, I like the giant bats.

& the gnome is a really cool figure too (got one in metal).

Just when I thought I wasn't going to get an expansion this time around.. boom!..

Looks like underground stuff has drummed up some excitement...  Now I just need to wait for them to realize that they need an add-on of a squad of cavalry.  I don't care if they're Anhurian, Mongolian or heavily armored knights.  A mix of all three would be great!

Yes, we just did a +$10,000 jump in only minutes over an hour since the last stretch goal unlocked!  

 

Could we be looking at a 2 stretch goal unlock day?!

It's not like I'm running an Underdark campaign right now and could use all of those minis NOW.

Well, it's a great expansion, I guess I have to stop my players from finding an exit tunnel until 2019. Or have them kidnapped and dragged back.

Have them be knocked out by some sort of poison fungus gas, and then play in a dream sequence adventure for the next year and a half while they're unconscious; only to have their characters awaken in 18 months to find they're actually still in the Underdark!

I don't even have much use for most of these, as I'm not the GM in my household and my wife's style is "No maps, no minis, no character sheets, just roll the dice when the GM gets that look on her face", but I'm too much an avid reader of YAFGC to not get excited about this. :)
