Reaper Bones 4: Enthusiasm and Commentary Thread

The new one looks much more detailed with better wings.  i suspect Reaper has learned a lot about casting in Bones since this one was made.

Well the original was a metal carry over but yah even then the wings were the weakest part of the mini. I like the new one but there is something about him I'm not liking. I think maybe if I have a 10 burning a hole in my pocket I may get him or not.

Not excited about either of the repeat demons this Kickstarter. I appreciate they probably sell well and Reaper has learned new things about molding, but I buy for gaming and I don't need really similar sculpts to what I already have.

The ghouls/ghast from the last update don't thrill me much either (already have lots of the existing sculpts).

Was really excited about the last reveal. Not sure I need another roper, but love the fungi/mushrooms, and love the troglodytes and will be getting more at retail. Also I've always really enjoyed the design of the bloodstone gnomes and am happy to see a few more pop in.

Narglauth is similar to another Demon?  Do you mean Rathauros?  Also I don't know why you couldn't use a very well sculpted huge Demon in a game.  Guess you just play against little demons?

I completely agree about the ghouls though.  Featureless humanoids has to be a rather niche market.

Well, in the comments Ron was talking about having optional hands with Agramon: fireball, weapon and open hand perhaps.  So that might be part of the price.  The options haven't been render yet though.

That is an excellent idea.

Found the comments in case others are interested.  Weapon options helps make him more interesting and makes it tempting depending on when we find out what the weapon options are:

Agramon will have options. We didn't have time to render those.

If you look, the flames on Agramon's fireball crawl up his arm. So, we couldn't make the fireball optional. So he has an optional empty hand, and will likely end up with a weapon hand.

It would be interesting to to see how many pages of chatter each 24 hour period generated, and see if there's any pattern to it...

Well, I can give a very very rough estimate based on the KS comment summaries I've done, though that's really just a pattern of when the Reaper folks are the most chatty.

Monday - Friday: I generally have to make 3-4 posts of Reaper comments of very roughly equal length.

Saturday: 1-3 posts, depending on whether something exciting is/was revealed. 2 is most common if I'm remembering correctly.

Sunday: Usually just 1, though closer to the beginning of the project it was more often 2.

This also roughly correlates with what Reaper has said they've noticed about pledge numbers and (I think) backers, that Saturday tends to be a little slow, with Sunday being the slowest day of the week.

EDIT: I should note that I don't quote everything Reaper posts in the comments, so that may be skewing things slightly. However, I'm still fairly confident that the general trend holds true.

Huzzah!

The new demon is a good one. He's very imposing and well designed. I might have to add him in. He looks fun to paint.

Still wishing we had more female demons and giants etc though. *friendly critique*

I really love the two gnomes in the darkreach expansion. The male gnome is the epitome of everything a male gnome should be and the girl is just adorable!

I also really like agramon. I haven't gotten the first two incarnations of him and I also don't have that many demons. Very exciting.

Bring on the badarse female giants!

Totally agree with you on the gnome concepts. Those'll likely turn out to be my favourite character minis from this Ks.

As for demons, I kinda feel I have enough already, although I am tempted by Narglauth because of his size.

And I'd also like to see more kickbutt female giants and monsters.

Ok, so I understand the League of Justice and Caeke minis were/are special edition and Reaper doesn't have the license for them. BUT, what stops Reaper from making different cute critters along that same line? I didn't start my mini obsession until after those little guys or they would be mine! I would totally buy new critters as I do the mouselings! I think they would be perfect for Bones!

DFTBA

Making new anthropomorphic critters similar in size scale and compatible in style to LoJC might be legal. But it might not be such an awesome way to treat an artist they've worked with in the past.

Or, there might be an provision, still in force, from the original license agreement that says Reaper won't ever make similar minis  (until or unless Wayne Reynolds gives the green light to it.) Or, the Redwall franchise might have sent a C&D letter to both RM and WR.

I actually like Narglauth because he's sort of...you know NOT balrog! and we have those NOT ring wraiths and there is one greybeard that... well you get the picture. At least this new reveal saves me ten bucks:)

And that "Ghoul 1" without the skull in his hand could look sorta like a certain former ringbearer...

I know there are a few folks that do Bolt Action and similar 28mm wargaming (@buglips), so I thought I'd bounce this out there.

      https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/tftb/world-war-ii-soviet-railroad?ref=discovery_recommendations

      Story
Railroads are an important means to transport troops, equipment, ammunition and all other kinds of supply to the front. Especially in a country as vast as the Soviet Union with it's endless steppes, only few reliable roads and no major rivers running in the direction of the German advance during Operation Barbarossa in World War II.
With this set of detailed buildings and rolling stock in 1/56 scale for 28mm figures you get the opportunity to recreate the crucial fighting around the Soviet railroad system.
The kits focus on the major pieces of rolling stock available to the Soviet defenders: box cars, gondola cars and flat cars. And the mighty ALCo RSD-1 Diesel Engine which was made available under the US Lend-Lease Act.
Also included is a typical rural train station with optional additional platforms for all who want to depict a Soviet - or captured German - supply depot, where heavy equipment like tanks and guns are being unloaded.
And for all of you looking for an armored train - don't worry! We have you covered.
        Talking about railroad tracks:
We did not see the need to reinvent the wheel, so all kits are designed to be used with
4Ground Railroad Tracks (available as add-ons to the Kickstarter) or O Gauge Model Railroad Tracks The kits include optional parts enabling you to choose your favorite system while assembling. Going this route has allowed us to concentrate on designing and producing the rolling stock only, which has the advantage of an earlier fulfillment date for the Kickstarter.
All models are highly detailed on the outside and inside. The interiors are easily accessible, as roofs are removable. In addition, all doors are moveable, which means you can open or close them during gameplay.

A Viking Girl sculpted by Bobby Jackson. She was a lot of fun to paint since she had a lot of canvas for freehand work. She is also my first serious effort at NMM, so that's a well I plan to return to.

I came to paint her when I asked my friends which model needed to get some love next. I presented a wizard, a ranger, and an armored lady fighter. One chimes in that she'd like to see the fighter (she being a practitioner of HEMA). Her boyfriend mentions something about boob armor. I said, no, she's got pretty normal armor. You want to see something egregious? THIS is egregious. My HEMA friend immediately says, "I'd like to change my vote." So here we are.

Here's the WIP thread for her. Here's my next piece.

This has sod all to do with miniatures, but I would be surprised if there were not people who might want one of these pins, for literally any reason at all.
I'll let the campaign speak for itself, as I usually do; it is pins. There are, as the title implies, representations for most of the common faiths, in a literal rainbow of ... well, Pride rainbows.

In October of 2018, Dog Might released the first fully sculpted GM Screen, the Valhalla Screen. Since then, we have released over 30 more designs, including officially licensed screens for: Pathfinder, Call of Cthulhu, and Vampire: The Masquerade. We have also designed screens for you favorite shows, such as Relics and Rarities and the Critical Role stream of Undeadwood. Over the last year and a half, our Valhalla Screens have proven to be our most sought after product. "

... Would it surprise anybody here to know I want one?
If I can't have one, at least I can spread the word. ;p
