Reaper Bones 4: Enthusiasm and Commentary Thread

Recommended Posts

The ghouls are the first core set addition I'm not that excited about. Might be bc I have 20 ghouls waiting to be painted. BF wanted to play warhammer again, and I picked Flesheater Courts in part because I didn't have any ghouls before.

DFTBA

Making new anthropomorphic critters similar in size scale and compatible in style to LoJC might be legal. But it might not be such an awesome way to treat an artist they've worked with in the past.

Or, there might be an provision, still in force, from the original license agreement that says Reaper won't ever make similar minis  (until or unless Wayne Reynolds gives the green light to it.) Or, the Redwall franchise might have sent a C&D letter to both RM and WR.

I had to look up DFTBA.

I guess I don't get how it wouldn't be a good way to treat the artist since Jason Wiebe still sculpts things for Reaper.

And like I said, if it's a licensing issue, I understand that. I doubt it is a Redwall issue considering the many lines of anthropomorphic animals available from many different companies. And yes, I could go buy those animals from other companies but I like Jason's sculpts and think they are whimsical and adorable - cuter than ones I have seen elsewhere.

Was just saying they are a type of mini I would like to see and would purchase. Like a cat dragon!

Whether or not he still does work for them, it would be wrong to mess with one of his projects without permission.

As for the demon redesign, speaking as an artist I have a lot of sympathy for tweaking things until they are gotten right.

Sigh. Ok, I am being misunderstood I guess and nothing I say is making a difference so nevermind. No cute animals, stick to mouselings. Got it.

The other thought is there are a lot of small companies/artists making the cute animal figures, and being a small industry, perhaps reaper doesn't want to intrude upon those niches.

Everybody's resting up for the big final week push.  ::):

It would be interesting to to see how many pages of chatter each 24 hour period generated, and see if there's any pattern to it...

I'm curious to see if we can get to, or bust wide open, the 1000 page limit on threads with this one....

I'm also curious to see how that would be handled.

Not too sure how I feel about Agramon; I think this version looks better than the older version, but I'm also not sure if I want him or not.....

Sorry if I'm raining on your parade...I do understand, but you asked, "why not?"

I would buy A Badger Sage or a Skunk Alchemist or an Owl Spy...right there with you.

From the LJC page:

"...From the fevered mind of Wayne Reynolds -- Join Echidnox and his mighty band of Woodland Friends as they defend the powerless, right grievous wrongs, and enjoy a tasty morsel of caeke* every now and then..."

The creator and concept artist was Wayne Reynolds. I doubt there is an issue with Jason, the Sculptor.

I liked them also. (Not so much Pentimus, however.) But!! Pouncimous the Cat Dragon would be a much better OpFor (opposing force) for the LJC.

Pouncimous and his feline minions, the Flying Tiger Cubs. (They could be the CWC, the Cabal of Winged Cats, or as others would have it: the Cabal of Wicked Cats.)

Exactly that. It would be like somebody creating a YouTube channel called "overtly snarky productions" so they could do reviews (with Chibi art!) of books or poems Red hasn't gotten to yet.

'Cute' is a niche market in minis.  Though chibis have shown it can be a fairly big niche. I see Rocky and High Rollers as Reaper exploring more cute options.

I would welcome some not-Mouses in the Mousling line. Two rats, a pirate and a suave but disreputable gentleman. A shrew monk. A bumblebee bat anything (possibly with a hood or glasses to protect its eyes) A Pygmy jeroba. These could all be mousling sized save the rats would would be about half again to twice as tall.

I think we're all up for that challenge!   And assuming they leave this thread open for as long as the pledge manager is open we could conceivably do just that!    Like the Randomness threads, they would just need to start a  second thread; Bones Enthusiasm 2: The Bonenthusiasm Continues! ::D:

@Pochi Reaper has a very good relationship with many hobby companies we all know and love.  They seem very passionate about raising up those companies whenever possible and strive to avoid business practices which reach across a line to those "friends" successful niches.  Scenic bases is an obvious example, as are modular dungeon walls, doors, and floors.  They could easily start to make that stuff in Bonesium but it would degrade the viability of some great companies, so they have seemed to make a conscious and conscientious decision to leave those sub-markets alone.

LJC clones seems like it falls into this category.

What you're missing is that they're not Wiebe's creation. The Legion was created by Wayne Reynolds and the license expired, if I remember correctly.

I know there are a few folks that do Bolt Action and similar 28mm wargaming (@buglips), so I thought I'd bounce this out there.

      https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/tftb/world-war-ii-soviet-railroad?ref=discovery_recommendations

      Story
Railroads are an important means to transport troops, equipment, ammunition and all other kinds of supply to the front. Especially in a country as vast as the Soviet Union with it's endless steppes, only few reliable roads and no major rivers running in the direction of the German advance during Operation Barbarossa in World War II.
With this set of detailed buildings and rolling stock in 1/56 scale for 28mm figures you get the opportunity to recreate the crucial fighting around the Soviet railroad system.
The kits focus on the major pieces of rolling stock available to the Soviet defenders: box cars, gondola cars and flat cars. And the mighty ALCo RSD-1 Diesel Engine which was made available under the US Lend-Lease Act.
Also included is a typical rural train station with optional additional platforms for all who want to depict a Soviet - or captured German - supply depot, where heavy equipment like tanks and guns are being unloaded.
And for all of you looking for an armored train - don't worry! We have you covered.
        Talking about railroad tracks:
We did not see the need to reinvent the wheel, so all kits are designed to be used with
4Ground Railroad Tracks (available as add-ons to the Kickstarter) or O Gauge Model Railroad Tracks The kits include optional parts enabling you to choose your favorite system while assembling. Going this route has allowed us to concentrate on designing and producing the rolling stock only, which has the advantage of an earlier fulfillment date for the Kickstarter.
All models are highly detailed on the outside and inside. The interiors are easily accessible, as roofs are removable. In addition, all doors are moveable, which means you can open or close them during gameplay.

A Viking Girl sculpted by Bobby Jackson. She was a lot of fun to paint since she had a lot of canvas for freehand work. She is also my first serious effort at NMM, so that's a well I plan to return to.

I came to paint her when I asked my friends which model needed to get some love next. I presented a wizard, a ranger, and an armored lady fighter. One chimes in that she'd like to see the fighter (she being a practitioner of HEMA). Her boyfriend mentions something about boob armor. I said, no, she's got pretty normal armor. You want to see something egregious? THIS is egregious. My HEMA friend immediately says, "I'd like to change my vote." So here we are.

Here's the WIP thread for her. Here's my next piece.

This has sod all to do with miniatures, but I would be surprised if there were not people who might want one of these pins, for literally any reason at all.
I'll let the campaign speak for itself, as I usually do; it is pins. There are, as the title implies, representations for most of the common faiths, in a literal rainbow of ... well, Pride rainbows.

In October of 2018, Dog Might released the first fully sculpted GM Screen, the Valhalla Screen. Since then, we have released over 30 more designs, including officially licensed screens for: Pathfinder, Call of Cthulhu, and Vampire: The Masquerade. We have also designed screens for you favorite shows, such as Relics and Rarities and the Critical Role stream of Undeadwood. Over the last year and a half, our Valhalla Screens have proven to be our most sought after product. "

... Would it surprise anybody here to know I want one?
If I can't have one, at least I can spread the word. ;p
