Reaper Bones 4: Enthusiasm and Commentary Thread

I'm curious to see if we can get to, or bust wide open, the 1000 page limit on threads with this one....

I'm also curious to see how that would be handled.

Not too sure how I feel about Agramon; I think this version looks better than the older version, but I'm also not sure if I want him or not.....

I still haven't painted my old Agramon. I don't think I need a second one.

Sure he looks good, but I also liked the first one.

I rather see something new.

What you're missing is that they're not Wiebe's creation. The Legion was created by Wayne Reynolds and the license expired, if I remember correctly.

Nope, I totally understand. I just gain nothing by arguing which was never my intention in the first place.

I also realized that part of the price of the new demon is that his wings will require additional plastic and additional mold area which I'm sure contributes to him being priced similarly to some of the other add-ons.

That said, as cool as he is, there may just not be enough money in the budget.  That's less about him, and more about how awesome so many of the other offerings are.

Or, the Redwall franchise might have sent a C&D letter to both RM and WR.

I don't think this is the issue. The other points make sense, but generally anthropomorphic animals are hardly unique to Redwall. As long as they aren't specifically drawing on Redwall concept art and names, it seems unlikely that there would really be any issues there. Now, if someone actually licensed Redwall and made those characters, that would be pretty cool. But generic ones would also be neat.

I totally understand why the old line can't be made and also that it's probably still a little too niche for Reaper. But Mouslings need good villains too!

Ooooh maybe we'll break the 12,000 backers this morning.  Not that it matters much but would still be cool.

I thought that maybe that the demon reveal might slow things down but it looks like we are still chugging along!  I guess my personal preference (I like the old Argamon) isn't the same as others.  Which is awesome because it is keeping the money rolling in!

When do things start to really heat up?  The last week?  The last 48 hours?

Anyone want to venture a guess at the final pledge total?  Number of backers?

I'll argue for Pochi.

It was obviously not her intention in any way to imply that she thought that someone else's intellectual property should be tread upon. She obviously meant that she would like to see more adorable anthropomorphic creatures, similar to what was produced in that line, not rip-offs of someone else's work.

The arguments for Reaper possibly not wanting to produce those kinds of figures because they're niche or because Reaper would rather promote what their friends at Darksword already have are at least reasonable, albeit solely speculation. But let's not cross over into sanctimony with arguments that imply similar thoughts to "Anyone that sculpts dragons is messing with Julie Guthrie's work." It's intellectually dishonest and unreasonably implicates anyone wanting something similar of supporting copyright infringement.

Well said.

Narglauth is similar to another Demon?  Do you mean Rathauros?  Also I don't know why you couldn't use a very well sculpted huge Demon in a game.  Guess you just play against little demons?

I completely agree about the ghouls though.  Featureless humanoids has to be a rather niche market.

They're a staple in the games we play, rather like goblins in a fantasy world. Can't have enough of them for an encounter.

RE:LJC  It was a one-time project for charity and was never expected to be an ongoing line of available models.  I spoke to Wayne Reynolds at a con, to tell him how much people wanted Pentimus,  but by that point he had moved on and was deep in a contract for Pathfinder.  And frankly, that was long before Bones so I'm not sure it would have been a viable model.

And then Gene started doing mouslings and that became Reaper's "cute" line.  I think it would be fun to have voles and rats and chipmunks and squirrels to go with them, but Gene is busy doing demons or giants for the KS.  He's the one to convince at Reapercon. Or get Izzy to do some concept art that other sculptors can work with.

I would guess with both Oathsworn and Dark Sword doing anthro minis that they would stay further away from them.  LOJC are still fairly popular though so I could see where they might float a trial balloon, but I doubt they would do that in Bones.  Cost is far less practical for an experiment.

But if you get the new one, you can make a scene where it`s a demonic Take Your Child to Work day.::P:

I finally got to watch the whole livestream (I have 4 kids so it wasn't easy to hear or watch the whole video before) I am super excited that we can buy the Swag Bag from Reaper Con!!  Any idea how much that will cost?

They are $40 at the con, expect similar pricing when they go up on the website.

I thought they were a little more last year on the site.  Not 100% sure because I am old and don't remember those things.

I know there are a few folks that do Bolt Action and similar 28mm wargaming (@buglips), so I thought I'd bounce this out there.

      https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/tftb/world-war-ii-soviet-railroad?ref=discovery_recommendations

      Story
Railroads are an important means to transport troops, equipment, ammunition and all other kinds of supply to the front. Especially in a country as vast as the Soviet Union with it's endless steppes, only few reliable roads and no major rivers running in the direction of the German advance during Operation Barbarossa in World War II.
With this set of detailed buildings and rolling stock in 1/56 scale for 28mm figures you get the opportunity to recreate the crucial fighting around the Soviet railroad system.
The kits focus on the major pieces of rolling stock available to the Soviet defenders: box cars, gondola cars and flat cars. And the mighty ALCo RSD-1 Diesel Engine which was made available under the US Lend-Lease Act.
Also included is a typical rural train station with optional additional platforms for all who want to depict a Soviet - or captured German - supply depot, where heavy equipment like tanks and guns are being unloaded.
And for all of you looking for an armored train - don't worry! We have you covered.
        Talking about railroad tracks:
We did not see the need to reinvent the wheel, so all kits are designed to be used with
4Ground Railroad Tracks (available as add-ons to the Kickstarter) or O Gauge Model Railroad Tracks The kits include optional parts enabling you to choose your favorite system while assembling. Going this route has allowed us to concentrate on designing and producing the rolling stock only, which has the advantage of an earlier fulfillment date for the Kickstarter.
All models are highly detailed on the outside and inside. The interiors are easily accessible, as roofs are removable. In addition, all doors are moveable, which means you can open or close them during gameplay.

A Viking Girl sculpted by Bobby Jackson. She was a lot of fun to paint since she had a lot of canvas for freehand work. She is also my first serious effort at NMM, so that's a well I plan to return to.

I came to paint her when I asked my friends which model needed to get some love next. I presented a wizard, a ranger, and an armored lady fighter. One chimes in that she'd like to see the fighter (she being a practitioner of HEMA). Her boyfriend mentions something about boob armor. I said, no, she's got pretty normal armor. You want to see something egregious? THIS is egregious. My HEMA friend immediately says, "I'd like to change my vote." So here we are.

Here's the WIP thread for her. Here's my next piece.

This has sod all to do with miniatures, but I would be surprised if there were not people who might want one of these pins, for literally any reason at all.
I'll let the campaign speak for itself, as I usually do; it is pins. There are, as the title implies, representations for most of the common faiths, in a literal rainbow of ... well, Pride rainbows.

"You take your game seriously. Now it's time for a serious screen.
In October of 2018, Dog Might released the first fully sculpted GM Screen, the Valhalla Screen. Since then, we have released over 30 more designs, including officially licensed screens for: Pathfinder, Call of Cthulhu, and Vampire: The Masquerade. We have also designed screens for you favorite shows, such as Relics and Rarities and the Critical Role stream of Undeadwood. Over the last year and a half, our Valhalla Screens have proven to be our most sought after product. "

... Would it surprise anybody here to know I want one?
If I can't have one, at least I can spread the word. ;p
