I would have liked to find out what the big models were but I got the couple of things I really wanted. And a few hundred dollars of stuff I didn't know I wanted until seeing them. Because I buy mostly with the intent of playing with them I'm not as into the massive models. They're beautiful but expensive (even at KS prices) and take up a lot of space. When they take up a quarter of my playing area for one mini it's off my wish list. I'm all about the hordes of man to ogre sized minis with a handful of larger things. Admittedly the handful is getting pretty big now too. Kaladrax is the perfect example for me. Love the model but she's just so big I haven't done anything with her. I tried selling her but nobody bit and now I'm considering hacking her up for awesome terrain instead. But I feel kind of bad about doing that to her.

The new Skeletal Dragon or the Zombie Dragon might be more up your alley then!

Kaladrax makes awesome terrain if you want.

But I do think evilbay can help you too.

(Aha, got the nested quoting to work: highlight all the text wanted and look for the small tag to show 'quote this')

Seeing the skeletal dragon in person, it's easily half the size of Kali, and overall footprint is easily one third.

Great idea!.......Dang it.

(Heads off to add a "2" on wish list in front of Barge.)

I'm helping :upside:

Also for the wrecked one, I will leave the tent off.

I might use it to create a howdah on a monster ( Blacktooth? Mammoth?)

You could use it as a tent on ground ?

If by Pizza Dungeon you mean the countdown party, Bryan spent almost the entire time at the livestream table working on updates, graphics, comments, getting artwork from Izzy as she finished it so it could be scanned, cropped and put into the updates, or getting photos of models that hadn't already been added to the photo gallery. As for the livestream crashing, I didn't hear or ask why but I would guess that it was due to the ~hundred people there using a wifi system and their internet server/connection that don't normally see that much bandwidth and the video streaming was just too much. Unless you sat down next to him, you didn't get to interact with him. This isn't a dig at you but I wanted to provide a perspective from someone at the party. I did feel like the barge was supposed to be the capstone piece but for some reason wasn't announced as such.

Thanks for giving me perspective, I'm afraid I'm flying blind when it comes to the party. Good to know that a lot of issues were from the internet connection. Also, it would have been better if there was more communication near the end, but it seems that Bryan had a lot on his plate. I would have been nice to see the rest of the barge, hopefully it'll show up in the pledge manager. If any of you have pictures from the countdown party, we need a thread to show all the cool stuff!

The barge is neat but so niche

i do not often require an undead themed boat

bit I would have LOVED a classic basic ship that could have been used for a merchant vessel or pirates or naval armada or anything else

but a skull and ribs undead boat...very limited use

Fair enough. But I thought both Kaladrax and Ma'aldrakar were of pretty limited use for many (certainly for me) as well. I'm not sure that those capstones have ever been calculated to be anything other than, "Whoa, that's cool! I have to have that!"

Which, conveniently enough, was exactly my response when I saw the ship. ^_^

I am kind of curios how well those extremly large models sell. Ma'al is in the store for $150 which is fair for that model imho, but kinda expensive for something you will maybe dish out once. Sure, some people buy just for the joy of painting, but for that price you could start a lot of smaller projects (and finish them faster, which to me is motivating). Ofc she is a super cool model, but different from most other Bones figures she is a bit too expensive for impulse buying.

I feel Ma'al Drakar would make a good display piece but not as a player or GM or just on my shelf. I see it as a good display piece for a game store. Get the one employee who runs the painting classes to paint her up, set her on the top shelf over the Reaper display, trick those on-the-fence customers who never know what to buy into thinking they can totally do that with one of the smaller Bones dragons...

The store I worked at had the old Horrorclix Cthulhu on top of the glass case of Go boards. It was cool but incongruous. Ma'al Drakar lording over the Reaper display would at least make sense.

That's what a capstone should feel like, IMO. Something that a store could use as a giant lure to attract players and painters. Like Ma'al or Dragons Don't Share. The barge has that potential if the lost souls and the water are as I imagine. Even better if it gets completed through some Reaper trickery. Although it might work better as a lure near the D&D books...

I definitely agree the dragons are also limited use

the  difference being the idea of painting those dragons excites me where as the barge did not, so I didn't mind their little gaming use for the delight I would get in painting them

but for me the boat would have neither gaming use nor be that exciting for me to paint

I certainly thought there would be a different piece as the capstone as well. And the way the updates were written didn't feel like any of the things that were announced was that capstone.

They might have intended the barge or Nyarlathotep or Argent to be the signature piece, but I wouldn't have expected them to be gathering art assets late in the campaign if that were the case. And it certainly looked like they were doing exactly that for all three of those pieces.

Yea. I am pretty sure I remember reading somewhere that nothing revealed was the capstone but of course this is just me remembering reading something

but I am pretty sure someone at Reaper had stated the best was still to come

(not long after that the art book was revealed, then the Sophie core, and that was it...)

I like painting dragons, but I found out that I like painting buildings, not humdrum everyday buildings but fantastical ones like GW used to make. It's different than painting something organic and stil allows you to use your imagination for colours and techniques used.

I expect that to hold true for the barge too, so I am excited to paint it.

especially after we see the translucent wave base and, hopefully, the desperate souls clinging to the sides.

I have painted ships before, being the Kraken base and the ship wreck golem

i did both in algae covered, barnacled rotten wood rather than just slapping brown on there but neither was. At particuarly exciting for me

i am mostly using those experiences for how well painting the boat would go, and I feel it's undead theme wouldnlimit ne even further because why would an undead barge be anything other than some dark and forbidding color? No matter how I picture painting it, I end up just shrugging my shoulders and thinking it would stay unpainted in its box for months or years like the other bones miniatures I don't want to paint

Glitter wolf I agree with the scales on the argent, the pose is not very dynamic but that's ok it looks regal but I do hope the scales are done a little differently

Bryan had said something about the Hero's destination on the KS comments, so I had been hoping for a really great piece of terrain... a wizard's tower... the halls of Hades... something like that.

Maybe Argent WAS the destination, but without that being clear, I'm left to wonder.

Maybe someday we'll learn, but I share the feeling of let-down.

I'm consoling myself by painting my Mythos cultists and trying to cram multiple shades of black on to one mini.

Judging by this statement on the update for Argent, I think he is the destination they meant

"

And we're gonna drop in a surprise goal - Who could the heroes have been deliver a message to?

Who is powerful enough for all those Demons, devils, and monsters, and would still help the heroes?

How about the world's most powerful dragon?
