Reaper Bones 4: Enthusiasm and Commentary Thread

Ah ... well, sometimes it is nice to be right, or at least close. ^^;

If there was more terrain in Bones V that made DDS II into a castle diorama .. that could be fun. However, that might take the capstone thing a shade too literally. As per normal, I don't work for Reaper, and any clamoring for such insanity should go in the Bones Request thread ....

Still trying to prioritise. Probably DRAGON!, then see what's needed....

Unless I'm mistaken, I think Argent is Reaper's first digitally sculpted dragon (+/- one dragon turtle).

It'll be interesting to see how much fine detail can be packed in model that size and still be noticeable once cast/moulded.

Considering jewelers have started using digital sculpting for rings, earrings, and tiny stuff, my bet is that the detail will be pretty good.

Digital sculpts ofc can have some great detail. AAA Video games or blockbuster movies have their fair share of awesome models after all.

Problem is how well the detail gets through the printing and molding process. But I trust Reaper to have the appropriate equipment and knowledge to get the stuff from the screen to our painting tables without losing too much detail.

You are mistaken, sorry. T'Rakazul (sp?) from Bones 3 was sculpted digitally, also by Gene Van Horne.

Argent was exactly what I wanted to see in this KS after the 5-headed dragon last time.  I said that the day they revealed Mal' at ReaperCon to Ron when they announced Bones 3.  But wow, there are SO many great ones to look forward to here.

For me the confussion with Argent was caused by multiple small misconceptions (there were my misconeceptions, reaper did not endorse them):
- The hight was given in inches (the unit of measure that makes no sense on a scientific level)
- the width was not given (so I assumed it was about the same size as DoD, probably because of hight being in inches not metric and it being unfinished sculpt)
- That sentence that people talked about to death
- I was asleep when it came out (and when i woke up the comments were saying it was not a capstone)
- there was no sir forscale (would have solved most of the minsconceptions about size)
- the price being so low

Most of my misconceptions would never have happened if there was a Sir Forscale or DragonForScale.

God job on the ks. Nice models there. Not enought dragons. You can never have enought dragons.

Ooh, I never even thought of the Bones 3 dragons. Some other models were obviously digital sculpts, but I completely missed T'Rauk.

In that case, how *much* more detail can we get? Though technically, I should be talking about texture, and not detail (i.e. digital Klocke buckles). ::P:

I bought 2 Ma'als with visions of painting and selling one to recoup costs for the KS. As of yet, hundreds of people have viewed my sales, but no buyers, sadly.

Yah, I get that on evilbay all the time:( tons of views but no bites:( If you are not in a hurry, just keep relisting it, maybe put it on sale, it will eventually sell:)

In ReaperBryan's defense he was saying for a week 'Sorry, no Mouselings this year, Gene is working on something more important" and "We have something big, but not taller than DoD". Then Argent shows up is bigger, not taller than DoD and Bryan says "This is Gene's", and it was at 3,000,000. I think we should have gotten it.

On a side note I am realizing that any bittersweet feelings I have are merely because I enjoyed the show so much, can't wait for delivery and I hope Bones 5 will be in 2019. I will have my list ready.

Almost everything I wanted was offered, and some of it is just mind blowing. Mossbeard was my personal top end, really the huge Tree-Man that I wanted. And overall so many big sculpts this time. Perfect for Bones, and perfect for the Kickstarter discount.

and in the defense of those of us that mistook what was going on, that is a LOT of conjecture and having to remember what was said previously, and what was said in the comments even if we weren't there

For example, I never knew Bryan said there would be no mouslings because Gene was working on something else. So having it be a dragon of Gene's wouldn't mean anything to me.

I'm not the only one that mistook what was going on, and I take comfort in that.

But that also means that a fair number of people didn't realize that was the big item we were getting, so maybe this is a lesson everyone can learn. Us to not be so excited and wanting more, and just accept what comes along, to stop predicting and hoping for something and just take the updates as they come without hype involved, and Reaper in perhaps wording things a bit differently next time so that scores of people don't mistake what they said.

I don't have anything finalized yet, but have started trying to capture some of the Bones 4 Kickstarter information. I'll try and separate that out of my Bones tracking sheet and get that up for some sharing tomorrow.

Got the Bones tracking sheets separated earlier than I thought I would and have added bases to the Bones 4 listings. It can be viewed at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1dFN0lQL096zQMq8KG5aXcgrA7-VEIEoU6W-ujck7kj4/edit#gid=142862380?usp=sharing.

I have not yet searched for previously existing sculpts to line those up, nor have I added any links to the main site yet. As an aside, the Bones 1-3 sheets are a mess and need some straightening up.

For the most part, the reference numbers are from the Pledge Manager. They are sorted by the order the groups appear in the Pledge Manager. The reference numbers and groups have been color coded for easier set matching. The colors mostly match the colors of the background of the Pledge Manager sections.

Core Set: 1-163 (green)

Chronoscope: 301-338 (grey)

Dreadmere: 401-443 (blue)

Darkreach: 501-545 (purple)

Lost Valley: 601-636 (brown)

Fan Favorites: 701-739 (gold)

*Add On Options: 801-892 (red)

**Add On Bases: 74012-74071 (orange)

* The Add On Options have no numbers assigned to them in the pledge manager, but I created a reference number to ease tracking on the sheet, so it is easier to refer to broken names.

** The Add On Bases use existing part numbers, didn't see any reason to use anything else.

I need help with Chronoscope & Core Set names though. There are many places where I've left things either blank or have entered some descriptive text (such as: "Adventurer w/Sword/Shield" or "Goblin w/Spear". Most of these are in the first 48 reference numbers, since beyond that, most of the updates contained names.

Edit:

- Open Bones 4 sheet directly.
