So... how long do you think it might take the party to figure out that the barge is the lich's phylactery? (Sometimes it is the big things that are hard to notice....)

The Auld Grump

Not long... <_<

The Grump. He leaks.::P:

I find the hardest/longest to paint question very interesting...not what i expected.

Do people try and paint everything to their best ability? As you can tell from my posts, depending what the model is, the detail level, size, and purpose (ie. contest or not) totally changes how much time and effort i plan to use...

Regards,

Sanjay

I put more work into my PC figures than I put into my army figures.

I care more about what happens to Rebecca, halfling urban witch than what happens to Goblin #3, so I put more work into her figure.

Goblin #3 will get four colors a wash and done.

I try to paint to my ability.

Not my best ability. At least not often. I paint to my ability to give-a-darn about that particular mini.

A skeleton gets a coat, a wash, and a drybrush. That's painted to my ability.

A character in a warband gets carefully detailed color choices and a pile of highlighting, details, expression, effort. That's painted to my ability.

If I get bored while painting cavalry and decide that horse needs to be an appaloosa, that's painted to my ability. The boring brown horse right next to it is also painted to my ability because I didn't have the same give-a-darn.

I plan to give-a-darn about Gauth. His horde of goblin minions, not so much.

I think Grump is planning to sell his Gauth. He's done it with most of his metal dragons when a Bones version comes out.

Which means he will USE Gauth, since the plastic is less fragile.

Yup! We're doomed!

Cinder was bad bad bad... Gauth? We'd better hope he feels like talking!

What mini are you most excited to paint?

There are lots of options, here.  As of this moment I'm kind of torn between Blacksting and the Thunderfoot Behemoth.  But the Blacktooth Terror gives me an opportunity to revisit an old paint scheme that I did for the DDM Fiendish Tyrannosaurus (I redid him to be celestial instead).

Which mini do you think will be the hardest/take you the longest to paint?

The barge...It's also the biggest item I added.  But it's going to be inspiration for a guy who lives in my head and will need as high quality paint job as I can produce.

What mini are you buying the most of (now or planned at retail)?

I picked up multiples of the modern scenics.  But I might consider multiples of Thunderfoot and Blacktooth (which sounds like an 80s buddy movie--and not a "good" one).  I could then do a couple as celestial/fiendish varieties as well as a couple normal versions.

What do you hope to see most in Bones 5?

I think that I'll be pretty open to whatever Reaper puts out.  Generally, I like pulp, modern/near future, undead, Mythos, and chibi (don't judge).

What mini are you most excited to paint?

The mammoth, Argent, baby dragons, baba yaga's hut, king of the jungle....

Which mini do you think will be the hardest/take you the longest to paint?

Probably DoD. It's going to b a show piece and I want to do a really good job on it.

What mini are you buying the most of (now or planned at retail)?

The rune horn hut. I'm gonna need a few of those.

What do you hope to see most in Bones 5?

Mounted figures.

What mini are you most excited to paint?

Probably the T-Rex / Carnosaur / Hood Ornament for the 6000 SUX

Which mini do you think will be the hardest/take you the longest to paint?

  Going off previous experience, Nylarothep

What mini are you buying the most of (now or planned at retail)?

Either Kobolds or Goblins, probably both.

What do you hope to see most in Bones 5?

More orcses.  A catdragon.  'mecha scaled to face off against Khanjira.  A literal capstone of a pyramid.  Dino-riders (basically could be achieved with a sprue of lower torsos compatible with most humanoid scales in a bow-legged riding stance that you could use to create dino-riders / cavalry out of pretty much any figure).

Since I don't game and only paint for display and fun, I do try to paint everything as well as I can.

I figure I will spend the most time on the mini I am most exited about which was the large female demon.

I spend more time on stuff like resin busts and boutique minis the  bones. I get bones to experiment on what I want to do with other stuff.

I also tend to go off "finished not perfect" if you just keep painting and finishing minis you will find you will get better. Bones are really great to start out with this.

Seeing that I spend less each Bones KS they can do whatever works for them for the next KS.

What mini are you most excited to paint?

Dance of Death. Argent. Something big I can dream about, plan, and procrastinate with.

Which mini do you think will be the hardest/take you the longest to paint?

The first one.

I have now got all the bones kickstarters, and have managed to start painting... a couple of models... none finished. 20 to go?

What mini are you buying the most of (now or planned at retail)?

Statues, because they are useful, and I have none.

What do you hope to see most in Bones 5?

A mix of lots of stuff. Bones4 seems to have hit that mix on the head.

Haha, I loved that commercial in Robocop!

I am getting extras (probably amazons) because I MAY one day need a plinth or two for something:)

I'm like @Glitterwolf I don't game so I try to paint to the best of my ability with each mini.  Add to that I am just a slow painter, I have only been painting since February, and I have 4 kids means it takes me awhile to finish a mini.

I generally do.

I game with my figures, but mostly it is for the fun of painting them and display. I don't game terribly often or in depth (I'm content flinging spare dice around and pretending they are the monsters). PCs get figures. If I have a figure around for a given opponent I'll use it, but I won't seek it usually.

I enjoy the challenge of painting tiny things. I'm actually kinda bad about art on big things, and have been since my first art class when I was 4 years old. I'd rather fill a corner of the page well than a big piece of paper (I improved on that habit in class and did fill some papers but..... small is good). I like detail work. I like nitpicking. Eventually I'll say "good enough" and be done. But otherwise, I'm trying my darndest to make the figure rockin'. I will pick specific goals to improve upon for each figure in general. Rainbow fairy got some face skill improvements and color precision, and shading black (corset). Necrobard improved on the shading black, and then had freehand, conversions, and NMM to practice. Soon I'm going to start doing interesting bases (thus far I've stuck to the paint side). There is *always* something I can try to get better at doing with these, and that's part of what makes it fun.

My exception is on junkers like kobolds and goblins. I'll do those pretty darn simple.
