On the other hand, the portal should be a lot smaller than the barge's base would have been, which probably makes a difference. Apparently, they don't yet knoe whether it's enough of a difference.

As each new sculpt for Darkreach is revealed, I find myself wondering if I should just spring for it. Only about twenty of the models will be useful for me - the rest will probably never get used.

The only thing I'm getting duplicates of are the sci-fi terrain set. I'm getting 3 of those. 

For the stygian barge base - the fact that Reaper mentioned a base was totally forgotten by me until the update, so for me it doesn't matter. 

But if enough fans are upset by the lack, I offer the following suggestion to Reaper - rather than doing a full base, what about doing a set of smaller wave/wake pieces to fit around it?

A bow wave, a stern wake, and a few side wake pieces could look nearly as cool as a whole base, be a bit more customizable for people, require a much smaller mold, and possibly even have the added bonus of being an item people could buy separately.
