Reaper Bones 4: Enthusiasm and Commentary Thread

I'm pretty happy to have the models unassembled. I prefer to paint it that way to avoid tough to reach angles. Plus warping was a large issue for me as they keep reverting to their warped pose. Having the bones now in light grey is going to be amazing for figure out what details are for and  finding miscasts. My only issue is the previous 3 KS wont be in that color and the first two KS would be of such high detailing. Also with delivery in Feb-March, and snow possible in my area at that time, I'm just moving Christmas to then.

The mammoth is exquisite, but I admit that I expected it to be bigger.

Me as well, but I do like it.

In fact, I expected it to be very big, but seeing this one makes me want to be a few more at retail later.

I rather have a herd of big ones than one huge one actually.

The Efreeti and Djinni girls are awesome and bigger then expected.

Love them!

I do want to paint that snail in tropical colours, there might be a Jungle where it could live...

And that Zombie Shark will be part of a diorama with a scuba diver for sure.

I was thinking that it didn't quite look big enough to do that with....

I guess I'll have to wait and see once it's in hand.

I mean, you won't be able to get the dozen minis on it that you could with the mumak, but 4-6? Doable.

I think it is slightly bigger than the Grenadier and the Westwind Mammoths who all had howdah's with some figures in it.

I think 3 to 5 minis would be normal.

It is a versatile mini, I can think of several cool ideas with it.

  • Diorama where it is hunted by the cavemen.
  • Diorama where a herd of these is led by the Frost Giant Queen.
  • Diorama where it fights against a cavebear or smilodons.
  • Carrying a howdah with a few barbarians or dwarfs.
  • Towing a cart with warriors.
  • Maybe buy a few, cut one in half and let it sink into a tar pit.

I agree. I think the sprues for minis that were in danger of warping is a good idea, and superglue really is not that hard to use on bones.

I hope they do a full bones fly over like they did for previous kickstarters when they got close to release. Flight of the Valkyries playing as we get see all the minis spread out over a table is just amazing. The new color will really help show the details as well.

So, a question to the people who have been backing (and closely following) the last Bones kickstarters: how early did it become known that they were behind schedule?

I joined the forums around the time Bones 3 fulfilled, so I backed Bones 4 with the expectation to get them sometime 2019. But we're getting pretty close to February and according to the updates, they're still on track. Is it too early to get my hopes up?

If I recall correctly, it was a couple months before their projected ship time when the first of the delays showed up (in the KS3). I think there was some kind of production problem which set it back. Followed by issues with shipping.

Most of the delays become apparent shortly before projected shipping. So I'd say it's early to get your hopes up. If we get to January and there's no delays I'd say it's safe to get your hopes up (though, customs could still elf things up  )

Last time there was also a lot about shipping issues in the news for a few months beforehand.  So while it's looking promising so far, Bones 1-3 were all at least a little late and it's a bit early to be confident that nothing can go wrong.

That said, the big delays were announced earlier, so it's definitely looking good so far.  I'm hoping for on time delivery more for Reaper's sake than my own at this point.
