Ooo if you can then figure out a way to have the scenes rapidly shift  (maybe on something rotating behind it) you get to make the players worry about timing their crossings. Especially  if you can get one of then to go through while the others are just checking it out. Like in that Star Trek episode City on the Edge of Forever.

I actually have in mind a diorama that needs this portal. I have most of the metal minis for it already. "She can show you the world" with the female sorceress on a flying carpet. I can give her different places to see

So I can paint one of them as a Portal to the Abyss; ala Dragonlance, of course. And the other one as.. well, any damn thing I want, really. ;p

Oh, how I like that crab.  It just needs some cream cheese, garlic, green onion, soy sauce, Worcester sauce, wrap it in a won-ton...sooo yummy.

 

The villagers all look nice.

 

The Pathfinder iconics all look great.  Lots of great details.

 

i'm almost regretting not picking up the skull cemetery toppers--which says a LOT, as I was quite emphatic about not wanting them.  I do wish that I'd picked up a second set of gargoyles, though.

 

Sophie and Friends are nifty.  I'm not so attached to Sophie, but I really like the rest.

 

The barge is simply amazing.  I'm going to need a bigger brush...I'm not ready for the madness of taking that monster on with a "0" (or equivalent).

Seems to me that the Pathfinder characters would be prime candidates for Bones Black.

That portal is one of those pieces of scenery that will be really, really useful in gaming. I can't be bothered with super-tiny pieces of furniture, since it takes forever to set the scene and someone will knock them over eventually.

But when there is a portal involved, the fight will probably revolve around it, so it's great to mark that one clearly with a miniature.

 

And, others have said it, but that core set is just so darn useful. I think the only miniatures that won't see any table use are the minitaurs and the small world heroes (I have someone who would really like to paint those though).

Just seeing all those kobolds in the update, 12 different ones in total, makes me really happy. I can set up encounters without having dublicates. And most of the other stuff is great, too (that Ettin has so much personality). Overall, best Coreset for a relatively new DM to buy into.

 Yep, so much going on with those, never dared to pick them up in their Bones version.

Weird, its almost like I planned it that way...   

 

I'd originally planned to make them all different, but didn't want to get into copyright issues, plus I liked the oriental twist.
