August 7: What is your favorite dog breed?

Golden Retrievers

August 8: What does the Dungeons and Dragons movie (the one currently in pre-production, not that horrible Jeremy Irons paycheck)...ABSOLUTELY HAVE to have in it? (DocBedlam)

There should be a dragon; it doesn't have to be a huge threat Smaugian dragon; it could be a hatchling being sold in a dwarven slave market in the undercity; or the shock troops of the mysterious overlord could ride mid-size dragons...

August 9: What should the Dungeons and Dragons movie TOTALLY NOT have in it, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES?  (DocBedlam)

A comic relief; cutesy; daft, goofy-broccoli character. Also  any garments that might end in "-kini". [...Zardoz... ::shudder:: ] No Xena/Leela leather mini-skirts either unless the female actresses are allowed sensible leggings and boots underneath.

August 10: What do struggle with the most, hobby-wise? (Can be a top 3 or 5 list if you like.)

My eyesight was once 20/20; now I need reading glasses and this is a great hamperment... ...final answer: fine detail.

Motivation

Depression

Rebuilding supplies

Somehow I think motivation and depression are linked. But when I medicate the depression the motivation disappears completely. So I can hobby and write and exist as a person or I can feel less depressed...

Actually, just to add one more: I struggle with color selection.

I look at what some artists do with color choices, and I am blown away, but I am very timid when selecting colors for highlights, shadows, glazes, etc. I want to go out there, and use creative color selection to make my main colors "pop", but my color acuity is not what I would like it to be. I don't take many color risks, because I know that what I see is not necessarily the same as what the majority of my audience sees.

I keep trying to push the limits on this one, but, at the end of the day, nothing is going to make me see red or purple better than I do now.

One of the early Magic: the Gathering artists was severely color deficient. (I had a chance to talk to him at one of my wife's art shows.) His work didn't look like anyone else's, but it looked good enough to get him a hot illustrator's job.

Give it a shot. Be wild. The worst that will happen is that it will still look good to you. ^_^

I understand this. Also as a male, the depression meds have other side effects  which doesn't help with self esteem.

1) Motivation. I really was surprised how many people suffer from this here, even the most prolific painters seem to be plauged by this. Once i get going though, it seems to last for several weeks at least.

2) Unrealisitc expectations of my abilities. I have come a long way but i have yet to learn how to say "good enough". I get dismayed when my skills inevitably fall short of the artistic vison in my head.

3) Severe, crippling, life ruining depression. Now I have it mostly under control but its impossible to completely stop it and sometimes it gets in the way of everything.

4)Time (???). As a grad student i have a very flexible schedule, but at the same time i ALAWAYS have something i should be doing. But there have definitely been times when i just said "elf this" and played instead of worked.

I worked with a guy that had zero color perception.  He saw everything in grayscale.  To him, modern movies looked like crap.  He much preferred older movies because the attention to contrast was much greater and made for a more enjoyable experience for him.  He could still punch down network cables though... because he learned to adapt.

Do it the way you like it.  If it is different than other people's, some may like and some may not.  At the end of the day, we all see the world a little differently.  Enjoy how you see it.

I cannot even imagine a world without colour. Even in the heart of winter back home, colour is everywhere. Hues of blue, white, gray amd greens which are astounding. The colourless world would be so bleak. I mean i know he would have never actually know the difference but I feel sad for that person.

Right now, energy. Well, also all my hobby stuff is being packed up.

But, energy to do more than sit on the couch like a lump.

Also, (as Doug said) motivation and distraction. Those are my usual demons.

Motivation--this one is two-fold; first there's the usual, 'I had a rough day, I just wanna sit on the couch and be a useless slug', but then there's also 'What's the point in painting this stuff, I don't have anyone to play with' (this is not quite as bad anymore since some of us on the forums who live sorta close to each other are trying to do some semi-regular gaming)

Time

Distraction---as in: I get distracted by a new idea and take off on a new tangent, run with it for a while, and then drop it in favor of the new 'really cool idea' that just popped into my head. Seriously, search around here for a while, you'll find several projects that I have started on and not finished....

Can I put down "the hobby" as my answer? ^_^

Motivation and distraction, which are pretty tightly linked. I want to paint/model, but I also want to do other things that require less effort much of the time.

More seriously, this is me as well.  A lot of the time, even when I have time to paint, I feel tired and just want to go "bleurggle".
