Woah! it's such a simple modification, yet SO awesome!! Great work already, I can't wait to see what you do with it.

Star Wars music just came into my head. Thank you.

Well I guess that means I nailed the Jedi look.

First thing I thought: Why not make a Twi'lekk out of her?

Great conversion.

Thanks! Great idea, I can see sculpting lekku out of his hair but I think I will leave it as is.

OK, this figure got much more interesting with this conversion.   Nice work can't wait to see the progress.

Yeah, it's not one of my favorites but was perfect for the conversion.

Thanks! I am really excited to do this one and will be starting on the base soon. I have stalled on the painting as I have not decided if I want to attempt texture or stick with smooth blends.

No update on the painting but the base is built. I wanted to go with a clean space ship interior and I am pretty happy with it. Now I just need to finally break out my airbrush and get it painted.

That's a mighty good lookin' base!

Thanks! It was fun putting it together. I had a general idea of what I wanted to do but it evolved as it went along. I had originally thought to put a window where the shield is but was worried it would distract from the mini too much. Luckily once I got the etched brass sheet out, everything fell into place.

That etched sheet looks good.

I keep forgetting that I have a bunch of those...

I keep forgetting too. I backed both Etch-Master Kickstarters and I think this is the first time I have really used them. I replaced a sword once but I think that was it.

So after much deliberation between smooth blends and attempting texture, I have reached a verdict. It was a difficult decision as while smooth blends are what I know, I wanted to add some interest to an otherwise boring brown. Since his cloak is all there really is, I felt it needed something more. I played with different ideas mainly bringing in different colors, which I still plan on doing, or freehand, which did not feel right. Well after blocking in some shading, I decided took a leap and made a decision: TEXTURE! And so it begins. It is really rough right now but I am really happy with the direction it is going and surprisingly my Army Painter Psycho brush is perfect for it.

What do you'll think?

Another Bones figure. I'm not entirely sure where the color scheme came from. I just started and it kind of grew.

This is a very annoying figure to paint. The hat brim is very wide and there's detail under it that is almost impossible to get to. The same is true of the beard. But the semi-random color scheme turned into something way outside what I usually paint, but in a good way.

Bones are great for experiments, because I don't feel like I have to obsess about every detail like I would for a competition piece. And I think my quality is going up as a result.

In 2018 I got one of my favourite 25th Anniversary miniatures, Darius the Blue. I actually have all three of Darius sculpts, the latest being my favourite too.
First I tried to paint it with the same mosaic pattern Reaper used, without any success, so I settled with... kind of a freehand that I didn't like at all and a very excentric color palette.
That (in my opinion) failed attempt got stuck on my head and recently I bought another one to paint it again, and I'm a lot happier with the results. This is my only "1 year improvement" pic, and I thought on sharing it here since being the exact same miniature I would love some feedback.

      Here the 2018 version

And the 2019 version that I just finished today

Hi there, this is my first attempt at OSL. I was going for drama, but it does seem a little heavy handed. I learned alot painting it. I'm fairly pleased with it.
Feedback and questions welcome. Thanks for looking!

      Hey, all!

Over the course of Bones 5, there were a few models that I was hoping for. I would say that Reaper totally exceeded my expectations and covered about 90% of my personal hopes. One of the things that wasn't in there was an Azer. For those of you who don't know, an Azer is a creature from the plane of fire, and they resemble Dwarves. They are so hot that their heads are covered in flames, and often this heat causes their weapons to be set aflame as well.

Since I had an extra Dark Dwarf Pounder from my November order, I figured that I'd try my hand at a conversion. I have exactly zero experience with sculpting other than filling gaps or making a rock or two, but I have YouTube, so why not? The first thing that I did was get the model and choose a base to put it on. I went with a simple flagstone base from Secret Weapon.

Next, I shaved off and filed down the little "3 Nail" sigil that these dudes wear. I like that Sigil just fine, but its more representative of Duergar than an Azer, so off it comes. I also clipped away the oval base and filed the feet to be flat.

Next, I washed the model and pinned it to a cork. I also washed the base and drilled a hole for the pin, and then stuck that on a cork as well. Once the model was dry, I mixed up some Green Stuff and followed along with a step-by-step for fire that I found online. Basically, you start with a cone and stick it down. I put it on the Dwarf's head, and then used a thin tool to push down the edges of the cone into the head and shoulders. Then, I used tweezers to twist and pull the top of the cone into a sort of whirlwind. Then, dipping the tweezers in water to keep them from sticking, I took sections of the Green Stuff and pulled outward and twisted. Once I had the flames the way I wanted them, I went back in with the tool and made more indentations in the fire. I did the same thing with the flames on the weapon.

I'm waiting for him to dry and cure right now, and then I'll get on to priming him and painting him up this weekend! Stay tuned!
