Two boxes arrived with more vintage molds yesterday.  (Why buy toys when you could buy a toy factory instead?)

One was a farily conventional WWI soldiers mold:

The other, to add to the once and future retro SF project, is one of two Flash Gordon molds that were made:

Back around 1996, our club (including @Chris Palmer) made a bulk order with the Eccles Brothers, collectors of molds and purveyors of castings, for a Buck Rogers game.  We also threw in the Flash Gordon figures, because, why not?  However, neither of those molds ever fell into our hands.

The Flash Gordon mold also came with an interesting bit of ephemera, a Home Foundry catalog:

Molds available for separate order run to four pages:

Watching sales, it’s clear that some of these are very scarce.  Others were passed down from one company to another until Castings, Inc. went out of business on the passing of its owner last fall.  I’m idly considering what sort of game would involve every vintage mold I have...

These are the sort of toy soldiers that I first used for gaming more than sixty years ago. I loved the brave little lead men then & I love seeing them in action again.

I suppose I've been doing this almost that long...my first mold was probably a Christmas present when I was in single digits, and obtained from the Sears Catalog.  It was one of the later ones rather than a WWI semi-flat mold.  I still have it in the mold library. ::D: It makes these three guys:

They are seen here with a Sir Forscale, and done up for the Brownland forces as part of a side-tracked 1990s Not Quite WWII project for conflicts between Brownland and Greenland.   Probably not properly licensed at the time, the sculpts were originally done by Heralds in Britain and are early 1950s British troops (I think).  As an adult, casting them was pretty easy, once you use at least 40% tin.  I shudder to think of turning 10 year olds loose with molten metal...
