The problem is that you need to use Spincasting or newer tech if you want detail.

Also, those old molds were made to be used with Pewter with Lead in it.

Pewter without Lead has a higher melting point, and hotter metal wear out the mold faster.

And it casuses cancer in floridians.

(Pewter with Lead also does that, only faster)

I'm pretty sure that is California, but then again, according to the state, I think EVERYTHING causes cancer......:B):

I’d have to check the alloy melting points, but I wasn’t having any trouble with the lead-free alloys last time I was casting.  As for detail, you are right, but the amount of detail wanted is variable depending on what your goal is.  For a table full of a painted army, you won’t see most of it, so it’s just a distraction.  Painting single figures for display, of course, is a different calculation.

As for old tech, I do have a bunch (at least a hundred) Prince August molds, and have been casting with them for 35 years, so I’m pretty familiar with the problems and pitfalls. 😀

Nobleknight order came today!

Army Painter spray primers:

black

Bone

Chaotic Red

Also, Reaper miniature: Neroli, half-orc paladin #02946) came with the order. She will be for a pre-gen character for one of my RCon games this year.

Also, out of the blue, a hobby order I placed with Spotmodel in Spain arrived today as well. Fast shipping! Order was placed on the 17 (shipped the 18), so 7 days to get from Spain to eastern OR. Not bad, not bad at all!!

Studio27 carbon fiber decals for

2000 F1 Ferrari

ST27-CD20021.jpg

I said I wasn't going to CF this kit, but after seeing the sheet be reproduced, I jumped on it. Nice sheet that'll look nice with Ferrari red paint job.

Honda RC211V motorcycle (2006)

ST27-CD12002.jpg

Anther sheet that was made awhile back but sold out & Studio27 reprinted again. I didn't want to miss this one, so ordered & recieved. Kinda of a small sheet, but what gets CFed on a 1/12 scale motorcyle kit isn't all that big.

Number 5 brand paints

F1-2000 red

N5-C147.jpg

Pink Base Coat

N5-X003.jpg

Both colors, (airbrush, lacquers) are for the F1 build above. Ferrari changed the base red a few years after these, so I wanted accurate shade of red for it. Looking forward to see how these will spray. Pink is for under the red. Helps bring out the vibrancy of the red & helps with laying down the red vs straight white.

D.A.B. model bonnet aka hood pins. I noticed the last time I was working my Lotus 7 that there was a latch on the hood & this detail isn't included in the model. These are 3d printed. I think they'll add a nice detail to the model.

Was out playing Bolt action last night and was mentioning that I should put together a full squad of grenadiers with assault rifles, as that is what a veteran squad uses.

So then when I was downstairs getting a pop I noticed this:

I mean, sure I have more than enough sprues of plastic grenadiers left to make a unit of veterans, but here are 10 nice metal ones already kitted up and raring to go.....

I got part of my Fantization order today,  the rest will arrive soon I think.   Just a tad late....  I ordered these in early 2020 🤑

Yah reminds me of a couple of Nolzur's I ordered from them for RCon. Took forever & of course they arrived after RCon. These were ordered months before RCon that year. I even told them to cancel the order.

I wanna say that was my last order with them, come to think of it. I don't like hassles when ordering online.

Order from Widget Supply in Albany, OR (south of Salem, on I5) came in today as I thought it would.

After all these years I finally have flexshaft tool holder. Red thing is a Dremel bits holder. Some cutter bits & multi-position vice handle. I figured I'm gonna be holding minis & grinding on them, I might as well keep is secure & safe. Also not shown is some cut lube for the bits, so they'll stay cool & workable.
