Amazon has this set of 10 "paint your own dragons" for 17$ and I decided to give it a looksee because I didn't have a gryphon mini yet and I really liked three of the four bigger dragons presented.

(Amazon Canada didn't have it so I had to pay extra to get it shipped to me).

The smaller ones are all knockoffs from Safari Toob sets, and they're too small to be Medium creatures but compared to the usual Large dragons I have they also look undersized. The larger ones are a perfect match for Huge dragons, at least the ones I have.

This isn't the same material as Bones. I'm curious how well they'll take proper primer and hobby paints.

Hard or soft plastics?

With soft plastics be aware of rubbing off paint, best to keep a brush on sealer at hand. It could be useful to seal a layer before adding the next.

I'm.... not sure? The Amazon listing says they're made of ABS material.

Has some slight bend to it but nowhere near as flexible as a Bones or an SCS Direct figurine...

Wash them with lukewarm water and dish soap. Let dry. Test a bit of paint on a spot underneath to see how it holds up.

ABS means it'll likely be hard stiff plastic. It's the same plastic used in LEGO bricks, though there can be countless additives to modify the properties.

It should also mean it's shock resistant. So the figure will survive a fall. The paint job itself on the other hand...

It's definitely not just hard stiff plastic, it has a bend to it, just not as much as a classic Bones piece.

Had kind of forgot I bought these.  Stopped at a new store on the way to my parents' place the last time I went (a few weeks ago) as they had been sponsors for the BA tournament I played in.

Plus I knew they had Gamers Grass.

So snagged the T-34/85 for my "soon to be built" Russian forces, as well as a few packs of different Gamers Grass.

Put an order in with Jackson's Art because they had a few things on hand I was looking for...

- Gamblin Oil paint: Torrit Grey (Limited Edition), Titanium-Zinc White, Reclaimed Earth Colours

- Brushes: Jackson's Onyx in 00 round, 0 round, 2 round, and 1/8" flat.

Especially happy about that Torrit Grey, I've wanted to get my paws on it for a while!

One of the items I ordered from Big River showed up today:

They are counting tokens, big enough for little hands to pick up & such. Great for learning how to count & other life learning skills. I, on the other hand, are going to use them for bases!

Bag of 100? were about 10 bucks (after a % coupon code found on the listing). They are made in the Wizkids Nolzur's style of bases. They are 1 inch plastic disks that are red on 1 side,  yellow on the other side. Looking forward to seeing how these take paint, maybe after D&D tomorrow!

Also before Pathfinder tonight, picked up my order for MDG silicon hard edge dice & store restocked the Chessex, so picked up a Glitter (copper) (#27503) set. The glitter in the MDG set is not as prominent as the stock pic shows, these dice (namely the 20 & 6) were awesome tonight for my halfling rogue! High numbers when needed!) Chessex, need some love before they are put in regular use.

So now's a good time to order stuff from England?

Good...ish? That drop in the value of the pound is going to be offset to a degree by the generally higher cost of shipping anything anywhere these days. Still gonna be a bit spendy due to international shipping, but depending on what you want it might just be the difference between "definitely out of my range" and "Let me check my budget and check the couch for spare change"...

As of the time I posted this post, the US dollar and the pound were almost equal (1 pound = 1.08 US dollars, according to www.xe.com currency calculator), whereas in the recent past the pound was about equal to 1.5 US dollars. According to the currency calculator I used, the pound is currently equal to 1.47 Canadian dollars.
