Incredible, that's the only way I can describe the experience of Painting this Miniature.

Tom Meier is know for his skill, but he has this ability to put so much detail into the smallest of Mini's.

This is NO exception.  Loved working on this mini (look out for the antlers..."SHARP".

The Mini is also very small.

I have experimented all over the place on this mini.  Colors were the basic Wash/primer/than Brown Liner.

I then started mixing Nightmare black (which is really blue) and put on about seven coats, mixed vampire whites into pallet,

Cavalry reds, washed, and anything I could mix in there.  I had my trusty color wheel out, and was just playing.

Eventually he said "I'm done/cooked/finished.  So here he is.  I even used clear colors in this paint trip.

Your comments are solicited, and very appreciated.

Do let me know what you think.

Jay

Here are some photos:  I Forgot to add the obligatory quarter when I paint anything by Tom Meier;

gives you an idea how small he is !

That does look like a fun figure! I like your color selection! The base looks great for a battle in a field.

Might I suggest working on highlighting up the armor? I imagine Robert would be wearing shiny metal, or bright but well used metal (steel + dirt + blood). The solid black armor is a bit reminiscent of a dragon-roasted-knight. If the black stayed in the recesses, but the grays were more dominant, he'd be a bit more imposing. Granted, it isn't always easy to do all this. Using metallics for the armor is easier than NMM, since NMM isn't as forgiving on the shading/highlighting.

Happy painting, and I'm glad you enjoyed this pointy figure! I hope you don't mind the critique.

Great job, Jay!

Thanks Uber;

I seem to be getting back into the normal swing of things,

I have missed painting like I normally would do.

Appointments are decreasing freeing up more time for me.

Complicated Mini coming up next !

Yay!!!

He is cool, and base is very fitting for his battlefield.

the color palette goes great together.. with the black, red and gold.

Mange Tusen Takk LarsM.

I appreciate your input, That nightmare black (really blue) has to be put on in many

loose washes, and built up.  The gold just screamed to be added to small accent pieces.

There are so many colors I was experimenting with under that gold..LOL

Its all trial and hopefully few errors.

Thanks again.

The minis in DSM's GRRM Masterworks line are insane, what with the accurate proportions.  (Tom Meier is godlike.)  Great job!  Interesting how his shield is painted in Lannister colours when he probably hasn't even married Cersei yet at this age!

Or has he?  That happened soon after he took the Iron Throne, and although my copy of young Bobby B. is across the continent at the moment and I'm my phone right now so it's hard to see, it does sort of look like his prancing stag is already crowned on that sigil...  Ok scratch that, what I meant to say was, interesting how his shield is painted in Lannister colours to honour his beautiful new wife!  :)

Very nicely painted!!

Thank You Chaoswolf;

So glad to see you painting and keeping tradition going.

My choice in miniatures has become very complicated these days.

Basing and multi part miniatures has taken its toll on my output !

I'm still enjoying it greatly though.

Thanks for the support.

OUTSTANDING! You have reached new heights with this one. The colors are WONDERFUL & your brushwork is MASTERFULVERY WELL DONE!

I read an article/interview with Tom Meier. He has a bad back. He sculpts lying down with a binocular microscope resting on his chest. That's how he gets those little details that bedevil folks without his equipment.

Thank You Malefactus !  Fascinating !!!

Bad Back and magnified tools !!  That explains those hidden horses' legs and hooves !!

I love tom's work, that is for sure, its a constant challenge !!

I learned to paint using his mini's.  You learn control, breathing, and color application in no time

just having to get it "right There" or give up..LOL.

Thank you for your very kind words.

nice job

Thanks Tjrez

So glad that new folks are joining our hobby, and taking and interest into our obsession !

I'm going on five years of miniatures, wished I had found it sooner !!

Great bunch of folks are here, and they hold NO secrets back, and will teach you through

any difficulty.  Look at some our old threads to see how we learned and what we learned.

The old WIP'S are treasures.
