Backing Darklands: Savage Hordes IV is a great opportunity to get into the dark fantasy world of Darklands for the first time, to expand your existing Darklands collection or maybe just to grab some fantastic miniatures to paint.

We'll give you the option to purchase everything in resin, too, if you're more of a painter than a gamer!

Darklands is a tabletop skirmish wargame in which YOU command the hosts of man and beast that your ancestors once did for glory, power or simple survival.

You can play Darklands with all of our amazing miniatures, including our incredible monsters and anything produced by this project, in a wargame designed specifically for them in a setting that you already know a lot about... for the lands of darkness, the "dark lands" as we call them, are in fact the north and west of Europe and of course the sunken lands still remembered, yet no longer seen, from ancient times.

Intrigued? Download the Darklands: First Edition Quick Play Guide to learn how to play very quickly, and have a good look at the Lands of Darkness Kindred Guide to give you an insight into the lore behind the game.

It's the easiest way to get playing!

To keep things as simple as possible, this project’s rewards are based around the concept of a Starter Host. All Starter Hosts contain a small Darklands host of around 499 gold - so Encounter Host size - where possible, and you can add the Darklands: First Edition rule book, order tokens and D10 dice to your pledge to ensure you have everything you need to get started!

As well as the hosts listed in the stretch goals, you can purchase any of the Infantry Starter Hosts in metal or resin from the graphic below - either as single purchases or as part of the "FIVE INFANTRY HOSTS" reward.

Each Infantry Starter Host almost always contains:

  • 1x Commander
  • 1x Infantry unit of 10x miniatures, including champion, banner bearer and herald where appropriate
  • 1x Monstrous Infantry unit of 5x warriors (50mm) or 3x warriors (60mm)

Note that 60mm monstrous infantry units (such as the Srónax) can only be produced in resin regardless of whether your purchase is for a metal host or a resin host.

ADD NEW WARRIORS OF BAALOR / SLEANAGH / WIHTSWEORDS ETC.

Most of these Infantry Starter Hosts are already released to the public; new ones will be released to the public in similar format either later on this year or early next.

Support Starter Hosts are exactly the same as Infantry Hosts in terms of costs, and always contain:

  • 1x Support Commander
  • 1x Support Unit of 10x miniatures, including champion
  • 1x Monstrous Support Unit of 3x warriors, including champion

Note that 60mm or 80mm monstrous infantry units (such as the Bholg of Acaill) can only be produced in resin regardless of whether your purchase is for a metal host or a resin host.

As well as the Infantry Starter Hosts and Support Starter Hosts we have a number of Monstrous Infantry Starter Hosts, based around the same principle of 499 gold or Encounter Host size, where possible.

Each Monstrous Infantry Starter Host almost always contains:

  • 1x Monstrous Commander
  • 1x Monstrous Infantry unit of 5x miniatures, including champion, banner bearer and herald where appropriate
  • 1x Monstrous Beast

Note that 60mm monstrous infantry hosts and all of the monstrous beasts will only be produced in resin regardless of whether your purchase is for a metal host or a resin host.

Most of these Monstrous Infantry Starter Hosts are already released to the public; new ones will be released to the public in similar format either later on this year or early next.

We're also introducing a new type of host this time around - the Monstrous Beast Starter Host, which will bring some excellent punch to your hosts! These are based around units of 3x 80mm monstrous beast units, such as the Felljötunn Host.

Monstrous Beast Starter Hosts can only be produced in resin. Each of these Monstrous Infantry Starter Hosts will be released to the public in similar format either later on this year or early next.

Unfortunately the launch of this kickstarter immediately after the failure of the other one just confirms my fears about Mierce. Rob has already said they're a 'Kickstarter company', so they're relying on Kickstarter for the bulk of their revenue. It's similar to a ponzi scheme, not uncommon in business, where the funds raised with kickstarter 16+4 are used to pay for the manufacture and delivery of the goods for kickstarter 16. The problem with this model is that if 16+4 and 16+5 fail to fund then kickstarter 16, doesn't get delivered.

The fact that the new project has kicked off straight away speaks of desperation to me, and I'm concerned for both Mierce's future and the delivery of the 40 or so miniatures I'm still waiting on

He's admitted he launched this partially so he could recover some of the ancillary costs for the failed KS..  I don't think they are 100% KS funded, but I do think it's around 75% I think before they made the move to metal they were closer to 90%.. plastic might drop them down to 60%.. KS seems to cover their sculpting and supplies.. this is also why delivery takes so long.. they can;t afford to bring in more help to speed up casting.. it might cost them more in the short run to outsource the casting to a company with a faster production time, but it might get them more people buying in from less 'I've been waiting forever' stories

Also worth noting that since they've brought in a member of staff as in house digital sculptor now (Bob Plociennik).

Now i'd suspect that at least in part that was to facilitate work on Darkholds (if you're doing plastic contracting everything out is so tricky every bit you can do yourself save money and lots of time), but since they've got him having more work for him to do will be good (for example he's now going to be doing the stalled Savrar Hosts) so i'd expect him to be scheduled for at least some of this too

(although not all as Robs going to want to keep things consistent with the existing stuff he's got contact sculptors that are active with them at the moment such as Valentin Zak with the Errain and Ernst Voight for the Jottun)

While there is nothing wrong with the infantry unit I have, I don't see myself purchasing another one.  I simply don't need those type of figures.  Now some of their monstrous units I would like, so I might make a minis pledge and try to pick up models that are already in production.
