I'm kind of new to 3d printing (as in, my printer won't be here until February - recently backed the Cubibot KickStarter), so maybe I'm just uneducated here.. but doesn't the price seems a bit steep for 3d files to me.

Well, it's kind of a personal decision, but you get really a decent number of models for the price (granted I don't expect to use some of the models). Modeling is real work (it is basically digital sculpting). Also, its a one-time investment for as many as you feel like printing (once you have models and a printer, the consumables are pretty inexpensive compared to buying cast/molded terrain). Comparing Kickstarter prices with things like printablescenery their prices seem in line with other projects (don't necessarily compare to model download sites, there are some cheap but crappy models out there).

Also, Fat Dragon has so far done an great job of supporting and updating the models. Since I backed the first one, there were a few issues that they quickly resolved with updated designs, and they have since redesigned the locking mechanism completely (the new system works *much* better) without charging for a version 2.0.

For me the value of the models is there, assuming they're models I'll print and use.

If you google Fat Dragon Games you'll find their website. They have a free sample pack, if there is a library or maker space nearby you can try it out there. And their forum has great support in troubleshooting most printers and getting the best print for the printer. Fat Dragon Games also permits customer created files to augment what they sell, and usually, you can find quite a number of them on the forum. Their forum atmosphere is very much like Reaper's.

Yes just like how so many people here on the Reaper forums are willing to help others become better at miniature painting on the Fat Dragon forums so many people are willing to help others use their 3D printers to get the best out of them.

Here are some previews of our prototype castle wall fully painted up. The castle set is a free stretch reward in this KS. :)

Tom any chance that in the final version the gargoyles could be printed separate.  IMO it would be great to be able to print different attachable décor to make a castle have a different look.

I have to admit the Mountain Adventures set is intriguing to me, because it's modular hex terrain (in small pieces similar to dungeon squares).  I have a bunch of HeroScape sets I use at conventions for Battletech, but I never considered the possibility of using some other system for 3D hexes.

Fun little piece. I attempted to paint it in the style of Costa Rican coffee wagons.  It was a real challenge, given the irregularities of the wheel surface.  I wish it had a donkey, goat or ox to pull it.

It will stand upright by itself on some surfaces, but I stuck a block under it to stabilize during photography.

This could be more exciting, but it's not.  I chose this as a test piece before I tackle Dragons Don't Share II.  Nice piece, it came together in a jiffy. I'm trying to copy the local limestone, and didn't quite get there with this, but it's a starting point.

Anthropomorphic animals are not really my cup of tea, but these look nicely done.  I imagine someone here will be interested.

I skipped on the last gnome one, but the whimsical fancifulness of this one has got me hooked.

      A message from Secret Weapon:

      Big news time everyone!
As many of our pledgers know, we need to adjust the Kickstarter - On the positive, we have a good amount of backers and we know that MANY of you are waiting to up your pledges. We have had a really positive response to the product itself, and lots of interest on the customer and retail side. We deeply appreciate this and your support.
BUT - we have a good amount of backers who are opting to wait on their $1 pledge. This is entirely our fault. We caused this when we locked our core offering behind stretch goals. There is no single item that is core. ALL the options are core. We made it so that many of you had to wait around to buy what you already knew they wanted.
That's a big boo boo, but it was made with the best of intentions. The system was set up so that there was no mandatory amount, and you added what you wanted and nothing more. We thought that this was better for the customer, but it quickly became obvious the vast majority of backers want jump-in points at set amounts like a usual KS... and weren't entirely sure about a pledge manager that was open during the campaign.
So, what are we going to do to fix this for you?
We are going to close the campaign, and relaunch it next week. That sucks and it's embarrassing. But ultimately everything else that happens is great for EVERYONE, because this is what happens next:
1.) ALL themes will be shown and unlocked right off the bat. If you want Urban Streets or Infinity, you just go get it, no hoops or delays to choosing what you want. You also know exactly what is on offer.
2.) There will be pledge levels: $50(+), $100(+) and $200(+). The 100 dollar + level will include a set of 3 weathering pigments (really really good ones too - Burning Sands, Dark Earth, and Rust Orange), and the 200 dollar + level will be the pigment set, and a set of 3 genuinely awesome paints. Secret Weapon's Rubber Highlight, Rubber and Tire Black, our most popular colors! At the end of the campaign you will use the Pledge Manager, as usual, to make whatever specific choices you want based on your KS pledge. The Pledge Manger will be available during the campaign for those that would like help figuring out a total pledge level, but that is optional, and you can wait until the end of the campaign to sign up.
3.) Each of the $50(+), $100(+) and $200(+) pledge levels will have 3 shipping zone options
      Americas, Europe (NOT UK)
      AU, NZ, Asia, Pacific
      United Kingdom (NOT Europe)
4.) Any extra themes that are developed during the course of the KS will be added immediately, no stretch, we just give you the option as soon as it is available.
There will be 17 themes live at the time of launch, which doesn't count the licensed product from Corvus Belli and CMON Zombiecide.
