Bones You'd Like to See, thread #4

Recommended Posts

I like the concept of "Encounters" in Bones 5, so, from now on, my suggestions will be encounters that also fill gaps in the Bestiary or Monster Manual.

First, the Mad Mage's Mansion, which would provide players with the animated objects from the 5e Monster Manual plus "counts-as" versions of two unique characters:

  • Animated Armor
  • Animated Halberd
  • Broom of Animated Attack
  • Clockwork Effigy of a Fool (Pidlwick II from Curse of Strahd)
  • Guardian Portrait
  • Flying Sword
  • Mad Mage (Mad Mage of Mount Baratok - aka Mordenkainen - from Curse of Strahd)
  • Rug of Smothering

This encounter would have Fantasia/The Sorcerer's Apprentice vibes, but darker, full of animated objects run rampant:

Baroque plate armor brought to herky-jerky life by eldritch flame, limbs disjointed and fingers curled

Wicker brooms with magically sprouted arms that mindlessly yet purposefully goosestep about on straw legs

An antique picture frame from which emerges a faceless, sinister shape with grasping hands

Filigreed halberds and swords that hurtle by with a whoosh

An oriental rug that rears up to bear hug and suffocate its prey

In the midst of the chaos would be the Mad Mage - arms waving and hands gesticulating like a mad conductor or puppeteer - and his assistant, a gnome-sized or halfling-sized fool made of cogs, gears, and springs that has an evil grin.

For summary

-Armored battle angels (large+ size, male and female)

-Elven elk-riders

-zombie horses (no riders)

- Elven royal guards (currently in metal)

- more polearm weilding humans and elves

-balding inquisitive rogue

First and foremost I would love to see some armored battle angels in large+ size.  Not a lot of angels in reaoer as a whole amd most arent dressed for battle.  Havimg these guys and gals would be awesome to paint.

Zombie horses. No riders.  This will allow people to use them for individual encounters or strap on a wagon, etc.

Elven elk-riders.  Would love to see some  elves with their fancy weapons riding these majestic beasts.  Thranduil from LOTR was an epic sight and im sure a squad of these riders would be just as epic.

Balding inquisitive rogue.  He has really become a popular request thanks to a certain personality in the kickstarter.

More polearm wielding humans and elves.  Not a ton of polearm weilders available in bones, especially males wearing armor but no helmet.  But more varieties of polearm wielders would definitely be welcome as well.

Lastly, I really want to see these royal guards turned into bones.

REQUEST for two of the items on the BONES 5 Kickstarter: Can you make the tentacles for the Thing in the Well and the bone pile in the Charnel Pit the same size, please?  Would be nice to make them interchangeable, please.

I'll reiterate my request for left-handed human adventurers.

You could do them in Chronoscope, from an alternate future where handedness percentages are reversed.

Or, you know, dungeon delvers would be cool too.

(And I'm not even a southpaw.)

A Bones product I would like to see is a series of Bones Black Multipart PC kits (to begin with). Here is what I visualize.

1) Broken up by race for the major PC/NPC races in most FRP systems. Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Gnomes/Halflings, and Half-orcs to start. The classics

2) Each set would have 5 male bodies and 5 female bodies with at least 1 in basic clothing/robes, 1 in light armor (leather/cloth/studded leather), and 1 in heavy armor (banded, scale, chain, plate)

3) a few arm selections for each body type (staff, bow, sword, mace, spear, crossbow, etc)

4) 5-8 each male and female heads (hairstyle variants, beards, maybe even some with... dare I say it... male pattern baldness)

5) some ancillary gear options (quivers, pouches, backpacks, lanterns, shields, etc)

I think this could be fairly priced in the  25$ to 30$ range (high enough for profit, low enough for affordability). The slightly higher price per mini in comparison to other multipart plastic kits would be justified (IMO) by the superior quality of Bones Black castings in comparison to most hard plastic castings I have seen.

Were these successful, it could lead to what I would really LOVE to see, which is multipart plastic warlord faction infantry kits.

Just my desires, YMMV.
