Ral Partha Female Fighter

Recommended Posts

I like it. I miss the old Ral Partha stuff. I'm so happy Reaper is still doing it, I wish the other companies were still out there making mini's also.

Looking forward to to seeing the counterpart to this figure.

Thank you!

And Brother Jim is right; Iron Wind Metals makes/carries a lot of the old RP stuff. I haven't ever looked to see if they have these figures, though.

 They don't...

These were AD&D-branded figures... 11-030 Fighters in Plate with Axe...

Only the last two sets - 11-034 and 11-035, which were never released under TSR - made it into the regular Ral Partha catalog, and are available from IWM.

Very cool, waiting for her male partner to be finished!

I worked on him a little last night, so it shouldn't be much longer.

Great work, Chaoswolf!

And, as much as I like Reaper's excellent, dynamic, modern sculpts, there's something about these understated old 1980s minis that I miss.

I'd love to see a collection of Reaper Bones minis in these male/female matched pairs for such a broad variety of race/class combinations, either in Reaper's trademark style or in a pastiche of that old 1980s style.  It's probably not for everyone (and, to be fair, probably not even a profitable idea), but those Ral Partha sculpts in this series were some of my first minis way back in my early mini-painting/collecting days, and the idea of a Bones collection of similar sets really tickles my sense of nostalgia!

Another thing that I'm sure I'm not the first to notice:  I can enjoy a buxom-babe-in-a-chainmail-bikini as much as the next guy, but that 1980s Ral Partha female fighter and similar figures in that line had some fairly realistic proportions and some fairly practical armor and weapons, and with about 30 or 40 years of hindsight, it's actually kind of cool.  She'd actually rather stand out for those reasons alone among a typical collection of modern gaming miniatures....

Did I miss him?

Nope. He's done, I've just been too lazy to take pics...

I'll try to fix that this weekend.

And another Shadowrun figure, the third figure from what was originally a three piece set of Elven subtypes.

This dapper gentleman is a Wakyambi, which from what I read on line (haven't ever actually ever played Shadowrun or own any of the gaming books), he's an African Elf Subtype, tall and thin.  He was fun to paint, but his dingly dangly stuff eventually just made me cry for mercy in the hopes I would someday finish. His necklace and his little staff had quite a bit of details to it, as well has his funky monkey belt buckle.

and here is the set in its entirety, not completely great focus, but it's hard to get three figures to focus nicely:

So three more finished, I wonder how many more I can get done before I go to the great beyond?  Hopefully 50 or more per year for another thirty to forty years, but we'll see....

Hello to all you bovine aficionados!

So a while back ago I did a normal minotaur, Greek-type mythological beast with an axe on two legs.   This one is a little different, it's a Shadowrun Minotaur which has a bull's body and a "primate" face.  I think Jim Johnson sculpted it back in the nineties, as usual forgot to check for a date on the bottom.  Pretty straight forwards colors, and it's actually kind of a big and heavy model. Put him on an oval base because there was no way he was going to fit on a normal size circle one:

Anyhoos, hope you guys all enjoy him!

Hello there fine followers of the fine Reaper faith and Happy Fourth of July for those in Gringolandia!

So here is my Shadowrun Dryad, made by Ral Partha, probably sculpted by Jim Johnson in 1996 if you choose to believe the bottom of the base, and I do.

I did her the same time I did the Night Elf I also just recently posted, but one of the eyes on this green haired chicky poo, I just couldn't get it like I wanted to, so I went back and redid the eye, and I still didn't like it, so this is the third version, which I'm also not super duper satisfied with, but there comes a point when I just give up to move to the next small piece of metal.

      So here she is:

and here is a close up of her eyes.  Her left one hs that spoke that I just didn't get closed properly.  From really close it's very noticeable, but only kind of noticeable from afar and I really couldn't tell with the actual figure, only with the zoom of modern technology.  I never had these issues back in the eighties.

Anyway, I like some of these Shadowrun figures, because besides being just generally cool, they kind of cross two genres.  This one and the other night elf, could easily be fantasy figures, nothing really would orient them to actual science fiction.

So back to the painting table!  Enjoy your Independence Day, or in the rest of the world, Saturday!

      Hello Reaperholics!

So I've had this one finished for a few days now, but I usually photograph one sunny days and the last few days have been kind of cloudy.
I actually really enjoy the figure, once you get paint on her, you bring out more detail.  She's from Ral Partha's Shadowrun range. Her original set came with a dryad and another large elf subtype that I'm also working on. I have the dryad done, but I wasn't happy with her eyes so I'm going to try one more time to fix the eyes before I take final pictures.
      Anyhoos, hope you all enjoy!

For whatever reason, I seem to always see magic flame as green, so this mini was no exception!

The Al Fasid, also known as "The Corrupted", are HaqqIslam's heavy troopers that will get the job done no matter the cost.  Their methods aren't always the prettiest, and they're never the stealthiest, and they have their own tricks they bring with them to the table.  They don't care about glory, and are solely chosen for their solid record of getting the job done.  Some enjoy it, some are in it for the solid paycheque, and others do it because the only thing theyy know what to do is fight.  Today I have the HMG version, who also conveniently carries a grenade launcher that can shoot either regular grenades to keep enemy heads down, or smoke grenades to provide additional cover.  Oh, they also pack anti-personnel mines with them too...

Since the "tactical rock" under his right foot kind of looked rather strikingly like the backpack for a Yu Jing (even though I'm not having any luck finding models to confirm this), I decided to try and test out my planned colour scheme for them.  That's right, I'll be going with a dark raver / cyberpunk burnt neon pink for their general colour, because why not - I'm going with hot orange for my Haqq...
