77042 Orc Marauder

Recommended Posts

2nd Mini to be finished from the LTP core skills. I'm really happy with how he turned out. also think I learned a lot more with him then the skeleton archer, although I did kind of skip ahead and tried some things with those skeleton guardians I painted but this guy solidified those skills I think.

"Unleash da boyz!" I think it looks good too.. You have splendid brush control and each paint is where it is supposed to be..

Time to up the ante by increasing contrast. Whic means darker darks and lighter lights..

Be bold, be adventurous.. Try it and you will not be sorry.

That's good work.  I got two of the Learn to Paint kits back when they were still metal, before Bones were invented and always thought the skills taught were so important.  I like the texture to the silvery parts, looks properly dirty.  And his eyes turned out great too!

Thanks everyone!

@stormbreach  Ya I would definitely recommend the kits to anyone, still got the 2nd kit waiting in the wings for after i finish Timur. I'm also happy with how the eyes turned out too as its been a long time sense I've done any and most of those were on 40k minis and i never really liked how they turned out, although i have no idea how you are supposed to paint these with the 0 brush they give you as it was a lot bigger then the one pictured in the instructions, ended up having to use a 10\0 brush for the eyes

I don't do WIP's very often and I'm well into a couple of these guys. But I added a couple more as I started to base the first few so I figured I might as well. Maybe it will help me keep my focus.
We have the 3 bones ogres from a kickstarter or two ago, the bones black preview ogre, metal Kagunk 2, and the bones 4 ettin. I may decide to add metal ogre chieftain (aka kagunk 1) as well as he is half finied on the shelf anyway, and metal Norr'Okk, if I can ever figure out what to do about his head.
Also considering ordering the newer ogre chieftain, but we will see.

Well, while I let Devona dry, I’ll switch gears to a mini off the shelf of waiting...

I started Kagunk, Ofre Chieftain a year or two ago.

The plan is for an ice ogre, with blue-gray skin.

Hi all, my first post was answered by such warm and supportive folks I decided to have a crack at the ol' orc from Reaper mini training set #1. The left eye took me 6 tries (and twice that many curses.)  Really enjoying this new hobby, first time I tried was back in 1983 and it was a disaster.  Maybe patience does come with age.  :)

I loved this sculpt from the moment I saw it. I absolutely could not wait to paint it. But I was intimidated by it for a variety of reasons. I didn't like most of the color schemes I initially chose, and repainted him several times. I wanted a decent base for him (I greatly regret not rebasing Cthulhu, for example), etc. etc.

But then things just kind of came together and I painted the beastie a little bit at a time over the past few days... and I'm really happy with the outcome!

C&C appreciated -- this guy was unexpectedly challenging for me, so there's probably oppo for improvement here. :-)
