Starfinder Masterclass Miniatures

Recommended Posts

There's a big thing that I'm wondering about.  Archon made a bunch of statements about having produced resin minis for Starfinder, Relic Knights and John Carter stuff.

They said that all of the resin Starfinder and Relic Knights minis were already produced and just needed to be sorted and shipped out.  They said that they were just waiting on Ninja Division to pay them (of course, ND was out of money and did not pay them).  They talked about the expenses that they were incurring from having to hold on to these minis without having been paid.

But now that Archon are in charge, it is a great time to change the material out and go plastic?  How does that make sense to anyone?

(I think plastic is better for the market, but I think that resin makes a lot more sense if you're sitting on a huge pile of resin minis that were already made).

It'll make sense only if we see these at retail!

No sympathy for Paizo -- or other licensors -- either. IMO, A licensor's responsibility with their IP to their audience is to provide a quality product. This *should* (but rarely does) include vetting companies that will make their customers happy, not just find a way to make money or market something. With KS, I'm at the point where a license is a yellow flag. You just don't have enough information about the relationship between the licensor and licensee to make an informed decision whether or not to back a project.

They said they were going to be liable for a big tax bill relating to the minis (as assets) if they couldn't ship them out by a certain date and were threatening to get rid of them to avoid the bill,

So assuming they did this (now whether they'd actually made all of the minis needed is another issue, one suspects that if payment was becoming an issue they might have not completed orders they didn't think would be paid for) the move to plastic probably makes a fair amount of sense

they're now apparently set up to design, 'cut'  and manufacture their own metal moulds, and do their own injection moulding so making plastic is going to be cheaper and faster than re-doing a bunch of resin (even using their unicast system)

If the fit the work in during slack time (which from the sound of it is what's going on since they're talking about waves of stuff) pretty much all it will cost them is raw materials and electicity, everything else like salaries, workshop space etc is stuff they'd be paying anyway (and if they need to do more 'paid' work they can always let things slip and blame it all on Soda Pop)

Apologies on the thread necromancy.  Archon Studios will have 6 of the figures from the failed KS for sale on 14-October.  They've also an original starfinder mini for sale.

If I'm reading this correctly, Archon will send you minis your pledged for during the KS for the cost of shipping, or they'll toss them into an order for their stuff gratis.

The orders for the KS went through Game On Tabletop (https://www.gameontabletop.com/).  You might need to refer to the order there for Archon.  I don't know though.  I'm speculating at this point.  It took me a while to dig up the link because I sort of rage delete all the ninja division KS related emails when it imploded.  I suspect I might not be alone in this.

Yeah, communication has been scattered across the KS, various FB pages, Paizo's forums...but as far as I've gathered, Archon has purchased (at their own expense) all rights to the line. They're re-issuing all models in multi-part plastic rather than the original resin, and will be releasing them in waves as funds allows alongside their own regular releases. Backers can receive all currently released models owed to them as an add-on to any order from Archon, or they can wait and have them sent periodically (I believe the floated timeframe was every six months) as the volume becomes high enough for Archon to eat the cost of shipping.

There may be some additional nuance for US backers, for whom distribution is still being handled by Ninja Division.

There is a little confusion about non-US/European backers.  In some communications they are being sorted BY ND, in others it is only the US that are sorted by ND.

Frankly, I personally am not going to go down that rabbit hole.  I am planning on ordering figures from Archon every couple of months to get my KS miniatures, as even shipping handled by ND makes me shudder.

On the flip side, I am really happy that this is finally moving, and that Zo! mini is calling me, as someone who plays a heap of Starfinder Society (he is a game show Host and channel owner).

I may go that route as well, especially since I only ordered two minis and they're both in the initial release.

The archon store is down for updates now.  I hope that when it comes back it'll have starfinder stuff on it.

The store is up and available.  Minis are 10$US.  Shipping for at least a couple of minis is 13$US.  It's not clear how the magic happens that associates an order with the KS backer.  I'll bite, but probably in a week or so.

Well, I put an order in for the elf operative and the half-elf steward.  ran me 33$ including s&h.  shipping was QUICK from poland.  I put the order in 11/1, and got them 11/7.  material feels stiff and maybe a bit brittle.  more like bones black than traditional car/airplane/40k sprews.  models seem to be about 8 pieces mounted on a sprew.  about 8 steps to assemble them.

in addition to my order, they added in the 6 models they have from the KS.

I’m interested in what people here think of this.
It seems like a great idea, but I’m wondering if there might be some unforeseen drawbacks.

      About
      Hello everyone,
A warm welcome to our latest Kickstarter called Cyber Belles!
These fairies have survived the eons and have adapted to modern times. We've placed them in an apocalyptic setting where mankind has all but destroyed the world and... itself! The fairies have evolved and have adjusted to the needs necessary to survive in this dangerous place!
The campaign will help us fund the production of three 75mm miniatures and maybe something else... which is small... and cute... ;)
The campaign is about three 75mm scale miniatures. Red Belle, Blue Belle and Yellow Belle.
      The artwork
Red Belle Blue Belle Yellow Belle Note: the sculpts are a little bit different from the artwork shown. We mostly chose to do this to make them a little bit more realistic and also to make sure that the casting were strong enough in the end.

Because I know several folks here use painting handles.

The only issue I have is the number of claims they are making. Not sure how many have actually been proven.

Looks like about 210 miniatures (including 3D tokens) for the Investigator pledges?
Investigator pledges are $10 or $20 more than their counterparts for the first KS.

      * Deep Madness - starts October 29th

      * Claustrophobia - starts November 6th
