that sickness that inevitably arises from hundreds of people cramming themselves into close quarters after a large number of them crammed themselves into little aluminum flying tubes.

It can't be worse than the physics helproom.

When I was a physics student, I got sick regularly due to being stuck with other gross freshmen with fresh germs. But the helproom was the place to meet people to work together on things, so that's where I went. At least we wouldn't cough on each other.

When I was a physics TA, it was even more gross. Fellow coughs up a lung onto an arm, runs his arm and hand across his dripping nose, then raises his hand "can I get some help?" and you have no choice but to help the plaguebearer.

The physics dungeon is a cesspool. Freshmen are icky.

Question for Monday, the 16th of October:

Like Van Helsing holding up a cross, what's your go-to to ward off the evils of Con Crud?

Ward off evil with... hydration and sleep? Also not going to Reapercon, sadly :(

Late question for the weekend of October 14 + 15:

Let's talk about your workspace. What are you working on? What's been on your workbench but is just collecting dust? What's the item on your shelf of shame that's been there the longest, and why? Pics welcome!

I was working on my Adventure Kids: Rogue, but then got Kaladrax...I'm distracted easily. I've only been painting for less than half a year now, so the closest thing to a "shelf of shame" is the half-simple-greened Ebonwrath from the Rainbow Dragon challenge. He currently is earning glares...when he comes out of a drawer. I've also been distracted from bookcases, a peryton, a hobgoblin captain, and a pack of gnolls.

New shinies are shiny.

Mind over matter---I don't feel like getting sick, so I'm not gonna.

Having a constitution score of 20 helps, too.

Maintaining the proper ratio of alcohol to blood in my alcohol stream doesn't hurt, either ( that's +1 for Kraken, BTW ).

First I order a swag bag online to get extra packets of Emergen-C, wait for it to arrive, make some and then sip on it while I watch the petrie dish Reapercon from afar.

Sulfur.

What?

I increase the amount of eggs, bacon, onions, garlic, broccoli, and red wine in my diet until my skin begins to exude sulfur compounds. The scent of onions follows me like a miasma. I haven't ever gotten sick like that and I don't plan on it. (okay I got sick once but reducing a 2 week flu to a day and a half is a success)

I developed the method after catching swine flu at a con. Hospitals were involved. Never doing that again.

This plan intrigues me...

...tell me more...

An omelet for breakfast. Or scramble. Or egg sandwich. Or breakfast burrito. No matter the vehicle it contains 2 eggs, a quarter of an onion, 2 strips of bacon, cheese, salsa, and whatever vegetables in the fridge look good. At least 5 days a week. Could easily do 7 days a week without getting bored, is tasty.

Medicinal ramen for lunch (I tend to suffer from low blood sodium so it really is medicinal). Another quarter of an onion, clove of garlic, whatever meat and vegetables in the fridge that look good, and another egg. At least 3 days a week. Broccoli is strange in ramen, cabbage works better.

I'll seriously just eat raw broccoli straight, maybe with a little ranch dressing or guacamole or hummus ^_^ The same goes for most vegetables, if allowed I'll eat them raw. Even onions. I may or may not develop a breath weapon afterwards

Red wine at the end of the day, one glass minimum. Two glasses is a good amount: one before dinner and one with. Dinner could be skipped if you feel you've eaten enough over the day. Otherwise, eat what tastes good.

I lost weight on this diet but I was also walking 6 miles a day and taking naginata classes. It's similar to the diabetes diet my dad's on, the one that keeps him from needing metformin. It's a cholesterol-heavy diet so if you're on cholesterol meds you might want to just eat garlic and onions with everything, it's almost as effective for your small plagues.

If you're too late and you already have a plague, I suggest a massive dose of fresh salsa before beginning this diet. The salsa needs to be as spicy as you can manage without crying or giving up but mild enough that you can look down an hour later and wonder where that half a pound of salsa went. Grocery store fresh salsa is adequate.

This diet is based off of personal observation. I have an awful lot of curly hair. When I get sick or stress my immune system my hair grows in without curl. Since curl is based off of the number of sulfur bridges in the protein structure I made the assumption that my immune system was stealing sulfur that would normally go to hair production. Therefore, I began experimenting on dosing with excess sulfur. I had some success with the "add garlic and onions to everything" diet but I still caught the larger plagues and still felt run down after exposure to plague bearers. I found eggs to be the key to my success.

Since I only have one data point I can't guarantee anyone else's success with this diet. It's a good data point though, I like not getting sick. I got sick once in the past 2 years and I was able to sleep off what felt like flu's signature punch to the everything in 36 hours. Much better than previous experience's 2 weeks with the same class of disease.

YMMV. Void where prohibited ::P:

There's a rainbow dragon that I'm supposedly working on but is in fact just collecting dust.  It pulled a floppy bones stunt and annoyed me so I'm ignoring it.

I have no idea.  There are some test pieces that are probably 3 years old but they weren't exactly intended to be finished in the first place.

Not going to cons.

Also I've gotten into the habit of washing my hands regularly because of work.  It was sometime last decade that I really got sick.
